The five-year agreement that began Tuesday includes a pay raise of 4 percent the first year and 3.5 percent every year after through 2012. Borough officials said the agreement is a win-win for police and residents. “(The contract) is a good deal for our constituency and for the police force,” Councilman David Aloe said. For the 2008 budget, Edge-worth officials have set aside $319,500 for the borough’s four full-time and six part-time officers, said Marty - McDaniel, borough manager. Officers will have to contribute more to their health care coverage under the new deal. Those continuing with the borough’s plan will pay 5 percent the first year. It will increase 1 percentage point each year through the end of the agreement. McDaniel said officers can opt into a less costly plan the borough offers and will not have to pay into that plan. Committee members a-greed on the new deal in November, McDaniel said. Negotiations for the contract began last spring. Police officers had agreed to the contract back in November, “There was hard bargaining on both sides, but we worked it out,” he said. “Both sides think the agreement is fair.” Volume 105, Issue 1 wwW.ypursewicktey.com 412-324-1403 647397534406
