Dreeland_______ Editor____________________ The school district adopted its own Interim Tax Resolution, which asks Allegheny County Board of Assessment to make its calculations on any new construction, whenever the work is completed. This resolution, to be enforced beginning January 2004, would put a house on the tax rolls as soon as its occupancy permit was secured. • New homes or those undergoing new construction are often missed on one year’s tax roils if completion falls between assessment periods. A missed assessment means a missed property tax payment to the district, the municipality and the county. Among some of the properties recently appealed by the district were those whose owners moved in during January 2002 but were not on the tax rolls until January 2003, explained John Sheline, QV director of finance. Some properties, he said, were not taxed for two years — although the residents’, tax debt was ultimately pro-rated to the time they moved in Any type of new construction would fall under this resolution. A letter from the district will be sent to real estate firms, builders and to the municipalities that issue building permits. They, in turn, will notify the owners of the district’s interest in their new and/or improved property. With the board’s approval, the resolution will make its way to county offices. “The county is generally responsive to this type of request,” said Pat Clair, district solicitor.
