Photo by Kristina Serafini Better signs mean more business By Bobby Cherry________________________________ Staff writer___________________________________ With nearly 17,000 motorists using Route 65 daily, according to PennDOT, some would have to stop in Sewickley, right? That’s not entirely the case, according to Raymond Bishop of Wilbur Smith Associates, an infrastructure consulting firm. It’s not that drivers may not want to stop, it’s that they don’t know Sewickley’s here. “The chief problem with Sewickley is that it’s not visible from the primary arterial, which is Route 65,” Bishop told members of Sewickley’s Business District Advisory Committee. “How do we make that happen?” Bishop, an Ohio Township resident who leads Wilbur Smith Associate’s wayfinding and signage division, believes more can be done to —— ------------------- ConiinuMl on Pag* 2 IEETSDAU Water Park: starts small, plans big By Kritfina Serafini______ Staff writer______________ Summer is only a few months away with 80- and 90-degree days right around the comer. Other than private pools, there has been nowhere for residents to cool off during the summer without driving to other community facilities or water parks such as Sandcas-tle and Idlewild’s Soak Zone. Leetsdale, however, plans to change that this year with the installation of a new water park at Henle Park in the borough. “What happened was Leetsdale looked around at the different municipalities and saw the need,” Dan Slagle, borough engineer, said of plans for the water park. “Given the scenic beauty of Henle Park, it was the perfect fit.” ' Through cooperation with the Quaker Valley Community of Governments, the borough was able to secure a $74,500 grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for a 20-feet diameter water park facility, Slagle said about phase one of the two-phase project. The community also was able to re-channel a $15,000 grant they received to enlarge the facility to 50 feet. When phase one is completed, the water park will feature fountains, dumping pans and an activation pedestal preprogrammed by borough officials for hours of operation.
