Dreeland_________________________ Editor__________________________ The artful will walk the walk and bibliophiles will talk the talk this weekend as the community comes alive with two big events. On Friday, residents and Sewickley visitors can share their evening in the pursuit of art and things literary. FYom 6-9 p.m., Sewickley art galleries — Bird in the Hand, International Images, Sweetwater Center for the Arts and the new Tom Mosser Gallery — will open new exhibits during Sewickley’s Gallery Walking Tbur. And from 5:30-9 p.m., Friends of Sewickley Public Library will host “Books & Bubbly,” a preview party for the group’s four-day book sale housed in the former Sears store in Quaker Village Shopping Center, Ohio River Boulevard — ■■ •—-- - ......... Dreeland Editor____________________ They called it an “unwelcome welcome.” A few of the newest Quaker Valley residents attended last week’s meeting in hopes of making their frustrations with the district’s appeal of their property assessments known to the school board. Doug Resler of Osborne and others who had purchased homes last year came before the legislative session to express their outrage at the notices of appeal that had been sent. (Resler had already addressed the board for an hour as it met in committee the Tuesday before.) “It's not just. It’s not fair to target us. There are discrepancies across the board,” he said. When Resler had received his letter stating that the district was appealing his assessment in light of the current market value, his purchase price, he started calling others new to the area. Many of those came forward to lend their voices to his. “Don’t target us,” said Michelle Dobbs, another of the 39 who received the appeals letter. “Hold the community to the same standards.
