Photo by Kristina Serafini GLEN OSBORNE It’s back to history for anniversary By Kristina Seratini______ Staff writer Just in time for its 125th anniversary celebration on June 8, the borough formerly known as Osborne will revert to its old moniker, Glen Osborne. An Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas judge granted the request last Thursday. Council began discussing changing the name in- January and later moved to have solicitor Harlan Stone petition the court to have it recognize the borough by “its old, familiar and common usage of Glen Osborne.” The petition was filed in March. The borough, which is a halfsquare mile and home to about 566 people, was named after Frank Osbum who owned the property when the first railroad station was built. The name was changed to “Osborne” to avoid confusion with another similarly named station, according to the borough’s Web site. Later, a railroad station was named “Glen Osborne.” Council members were hoping to have the name change approved in time for the community’s 125th anniversary celebration at Osborne Elementary. Although the new name is approved, Maleet Gordon, borough secretary, said it will take a while to change everything. Officials are not planning to pay for new items, like letterhead, with the Glen Osborne name yet, but instead use up everything they have until it’s time to order more. --------- Continued on Page 4 Volume 105, Issue 22 www.yoiirsewjckley.oom 412-324-1403 647397534406
