No/20 In Two Sections, w%*aww mm%Mggy speak QV to graduate 186 “Class of 1981-Where They’ve Been, Where They’re Going” will be the subject of the featured speaker, Senator Edward M. Early, at the 25th Quaker Galley High School graduation on Wednesday, June 10 3t 7 p.m. at the Junior High School field. Senator Early is serving his second temsterm in the Pennsylvania Senate, representing the 40th District. He previously serv- ed two terms in the State House of Representatives for the 29th District. Currently Minority Chairman of the Public Health and Welfare Committee, Senator Early also serves on Aging and Youth, Appropriations, and the Military and Veterans Affairs committees. In 1970, Senator Early was namedMan Of the Year by the North Hill Jayeees.In 1977 he received their Good Goverment Award. Reverand Jezreel Toliver of Triumph Baptist Church of Sewickley will give the invocation at the Quaker yaliey Commencement and The- Very Reverend Vladimir Soroka will pronounce the benediction. Vincent A. Cortese, hgh school principal, will present the graduating class to’ D.r Leroy L. Kite, Quaker Valley School District Superintendent, andGeorge Arbutina, administrative assistant. Dr. Kite and Arbutina will award the diplomas to the 186 graduating seniors. Senior class officers are: William J. Hazelbach, president; Kathleen Omecinski, vice president; Sarah Hamlen, Secretary; and Lydia Toliver, treasurer. Valedictorian for the Class of 1981 is Laura pallan. Salutatorian is Kimberly Murphy. Zelekovitz Senator Edward Early 16 honored on Awards Day Awards Day at Quaker Valley High School on Thursday, June 4 honored outstanding 1981 graduating Seniors. ’ Academic honors were" presented to: Brian Xander, National Merit Scholarship Letter of Commendation; Leslie Withrow, National Achievement Scholarship Letter of Commendation; Wendy Woodsum, Sewickley Century Club. English Award; - Laura Pallan, Leonard Girardi and Kimberly Murphy for the Kiwanis Club of Sewickley Academic Excellence Awards; James Woodworth and Laura Jacobs,the Harolds. Irons Scholarship; and Hugh Conley, Quaker Valley Education^ Association Career Scholarship. The Friends of Quaker Valley Schools Charitable trust social studies award was presented to Brian Tarasi; The Society of Women Engineers presented science and math awards to Amy Bell and Lisa Bruno. Leonard Girardi received the Louis Caplan Human Relations Award and Laura Pallan-received the Uni.ver-sity Of Pittsburgh” Academic Scholarship Award. Anne Pugh and Tom Soroka received the Kiwanis Club of Sewickley Music Awards. Anne was honored for her band achievements and Tom for his chprus accomplishments. ... Lori Reid presented a Peruvian flag to the school on behalf of the American Field Service. Lori lived in Peru for several months as an A.F.S. exchange student. Other seniors honored were: Tom Wiseman who placed first in the physics division of the Buhl Planetarium Science Fair, and Robert Wick who received honorable mention from Buhl ih the same division. Named first place winners by the Junior Academy of Science were Diana Dallara, • Leonard Girardi, Laura Jacobs and Todd Kenyon. Cathy Quinn placed second and Tom Wiseman, third.
