Pfmto &y Davidson chan ▼ TAXES QV tax Quaker Valley Tax Reform League met on Sunday to establish committees and consider actions to control the growth of tax increases at all levels of local government. According to spokesperson JackieRoonoy,tliencwlyfonned. League is concerned about permanent, long-term solutions to the following problems: ® High property taxes in Allegheny County; • Lack of uniformity in assessments; ® Unexpected, intolerably large assessment increases; ® High cost of administering now has a league of its own the property assessment system; ■ * Complejdty of the property-tax system; * Windfall tax collections at all levels of local government; ‘ ® Limited relationship property tax tears to the taxpayer’s-ability to pay and that it should not be local government’s main source of-revenue The League has elected officers and committee chairmen. Peter Floyd of Sewiekley is file general chairman; Klaus Gensheimcr of Edgeworth is assistant ehairman;Havid Yaske of Sewiekley is treasurer and finance-committee chair.. Other committees and chairmen are; • Legal*. Michael Lyons, Sewiekley; ; ® School Board Accountability: William Provonaano, Sewickley; ‘ ® Political Action: Marianne and Richard Wagner, Osborne; ® Taxpayer Education and Assistance: Dolores Bassett, Edgeworth; ® Membership: Linda Floyd, Sewiekley; ® Public Relations: Jackie Rooney, Sewiekley; * Advisory Members: Larry O’Loughlin, Sewickley; Donald Dunbar, Sewickley. Allegheny County Commissioner Larry Dunn was a guest at an organizational meeting of . the group last month, talking about state Senate Bill 448?, the Fisher-Hart Bill. It would put a S percent cap on assessed value of real property in the county. ThoLeague sdpports the bill, but requested that Dunn consider additional actions that would provide for total reform in the tax-assessment system. .
