Also to be voted on during •.the second December session is an amended budget that would reflect the new rate, “This Will the first time since the borough was incorporated in 1960 that the millage has changed, ” said Thomas Klixbull, ' council president. “It was always 2.5, and now the first change will be a reduction." • A recently released report from the county assessment office showed a significant increase on property value .in Sewiddey Hills, Klixbull learned about it just prior to the meeting and proposed the reduction. Council’s agreement to vote on it also forced the budget to be reworked. The assessed value for 1994 noted by the county was $7,917,750 which; will generate $19,629. According to Klixbull, the new figures represent a 27 percent tax increase: from 1993. . “We’re going to send a letter to the assessment office telling them the new-rates are excessive and, ask that they reconsider," he said. Council will also send a letter to Quaker Valley SchoolDistrict and request that it also reduce its millage rate to reflect the--overall increase, In other news: ■ ® Councilwoman Linda Edson agreed to tvork ona special committee that would explore ways, to open up a park and recreation facility within the borough. The decision came after a number of residents petitioned council and presented a survey that stewed nearly GO percentof the community in favor. It will start to January.
