Wanto suggested the idea for a community picnic a year ago. 200 RESIDENTS of Leet Township gathered in Walker Park on Saturday for their very first community picnic. The admission price was one dozen cookies to share. The grills were cooking and the corn on thp cob steaming as the children played and adults visited with their neighbors in Shelters 3 and 4. Mystic Knights Blues Band and the Maple Sugar String Band entertained. Donations for the picnic came from the township and major area companies. "It would allow for us to look at the big picture, similar to wiiat’s happening at War Memorial Park," said Kevin Flannery, Sewickley borough manager, at August’s Committee of the Whole meeting. "It would better serve the residents and the borough." Ihe plan would involve analysis of all Uiree parks to determine how each could play in ongoing riverfront development. Council memJjers Don Kipke and Rolbert Glenn voiced concerns about Maple lane Park users’ requests i)eing overlooked for the Master Plan. "A Master Plan can take a year," said Glenn. "These people only want a few tilings and we can give them to them." While the plan is in the early discussion pliase, the idea was prompted by the potential expansion of Riverfront Park. The l)orougfa is investigating leasing 0.54 acres adjacent to Riverfront Park from Norfolk SouUiem Railway. The lease is contingent on satisfactory results of environmental tests conducted by CORE Environmental Services. liist month, council questioned why Riverfront Park Inc. wasn’t maintaining the park. Representatives of the group said at the time of the 1999 lease, it was their intention to build the site then turn it over to the borough. Lfist week, council unanimously passed a resolution to mutually termiiate the lease
