Renovations nearly done for school start HANDS-ON experience is shared by Connor Kirsch and Chris Tedesko, Academy students. fty Robert Wetble _______________Staff writer____________ Preparations for the new school -year at Sewickley-Academy have been particularly fast-paced this year. Win Karin, SA’s director of community relations, said that workers are working double-time into. the evenings to get everything ready for the fall school year; The first day of school for the academy students will be Tuesday, Sept. 8. Renovations will be wrapped up, for the most part, by the time the students return to classes. But they will be returning to a place that may be unfamiliar. Students from grade 6 in the Lower School will be included with grades 7 and 8 in the new Simmons Family Middle School, which will be better suited to their needs. It may also be equally as alien to students entering or returning to the Senior School, which has undergone extensive renovations during the spring and summer. Nine new classrooms, some small tutoring rooms and a new and enlarged commons have been added and will welcome students on day one of what will be the next 180-plus days left in the school year. All the rooms in the Senior School and throughout campus are now technology cally capable. Learning space isn’t the only area that has been renovated. The Alumni Gym will reopen this year with a new facade, larger wrestling and weight rooms and improved locker rooms. The centerpiece of the $15 million project is the new Hansen Library.
