COME TO THE FAIR!” This photograph is typical of the peaceful scenes all over this land from where the aibundant crops are coming, itlie Jinest specimens of which are being shown in harvest fairs throughout -the country. It ih-ardly represents, however, the carnival spirit which reigns in Edgeworth the -day each year when the community residents bring their own prized entries 'to the exhibits held in the Edgeworth -School. This time the date is next Thursday, August the twenty-fourth, from two until ten p. nii, and 'there will ibe enough to f>ee, to buy and to enjoy, to keep anyone, old or young, busy and entertained for some time. One of -the new featuros which has been added is a Swap Mart. There is to be a tfllblo containing small articles to be 'traded, and for those who Jiave items tOiO largo for a table, there will bo a bulletin in which their properties may -be listed. Miss Mary Louise <Junn will have charge of the Servico Photograph dis-play, anti anyono wishing1 to put in an entry may reach ihor ait the ¡Edge-worth Borough Building. Henry Eby> lioad of the Allegheny County Agricultural Bureau, will judge the vegetable exhibit, while that of canning and 'baking will be judged 'by Miss Truax, Who heads <the Home Economics Department at Pennsylvania State 'College. For the information of those who have not read or heard of -the varied forms of entertainment, a resume might ibe. in order. A popular feature will be the 'Children’s .Pot Parade, accompanied by Joseph Calderono playing his accordion. There will be displays ■o’f flowers, fruits, vegetables, baked and canned foods, jellies and preserves, needlework, flower arrangements and table settings. There will be sales of vegetables, baked goods, soft drinks, ice cream and other refreshments which may be obtainable. Tile evening will be topped oil iby an auction, which is always a highlight of tho show. Altogether, the day should [prove to be packed with intorest and fun. An addition is being built to the-Pine ' Inn Market, on Big Sewickley Creek road, in .the form of flu insulated storf ago, room for fresh produce. This will provide facilities for keeping larger quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables on hand at all times. Pine Inn Market is managed by Clara ■Shaed’er -and 'I-Ienry Yerkin. TRAFFIC ABUSES Even the New Boulevard Section Does Not Eliminate'Them in Edgeworth If hurrying war-workers would follow the Boulevard, freshly opened to Lee'tsd'ale, the stop-light on Beaver lioad at Edgeworth Lane could be removed, Borough Manager H. F. Burkholder told Edgeworth council Monday evening; but a few days’ trial of it as a mere ‘blinker’ light demonstrated that .many through drivers would stay on Beaver Road instead of -having to get through ■Sewickley’s pestiferous lights on the Boulevard, if that Edgeworth sign«! were removed. And speeding on the Boulevard really isn’t so dangerous to children and other pedestrians as fast traffic on the borough’s narrower streets. iSo careful 'attention was- given ft letter from Edgoworth school board, suggesting a number -of safety measures council might well take, now that the school term is soon to begin. Children Who live below 'the Boulevard arc few, and the stationing of policemen: to see them s.i'fe across seems impracticable; painting cross-walks- on the pavement is -easy enough and may be. -done, but ofTcra very slight assurance of safety. Maintaining traffic signs can and will be done, and a general ‘tightening up of traffic enforcement 'was dc'iinitely ordered, although the measures to be adopted, motorcycle, poliee car timing or measured stretch—was loft to the judgment of the borough manager. Intensified traffic-danger education of children Was rather within tho province ’of school and parents, council thought. The State Highway Department now wants to 'abandon its control over Edge-worth Lane and Beaver Road we«t of it, since- the Boulevard is opened, and is to lravo a meeting at two o’clock this afternoon to go over these- streets, and decide, in. consultation with a borough representative, what repairing should bo made to put tho streets in as good condition as they were w-hen the State took them over to carry Hie heavy through traffic. Manager Burkholder, who has already had som-e satisfactory interviews with tho Department engineers on the subject, was given authority to meet them and cotne to an agreement with, them on tihe matter. Bills authorized for payment totaled $2,384.66, and running expenses paid from the Manager’s -account, $2,527,05. Balance after payment of these amount» was $3fi,D0S.iiil; tax collections to date for 10*14 were $20,478, leaving $4,448 Still to collect; a satisfactory showing, council agreedi
