The photo is by Thomas Toia, HARVEST FESTIVAL All reports indicate that the Sewickley Harvest Festival of 1944 ijrill be bigger and better than, that of 1943, fine as it was. It now appears that many more tickets will 'be sold in advance than were ■sold last year. Two additional orders for tickets liavc been given to 'the printer over the original order for eight thousand. Thirteen beautiful young ladies are registered in the Festival Queen contest and working vigorously to win t'ho honor and first prize. The race at pres* ent is very close among four or fivo leaders. It is quite possible, however, that a “dark horse” may come to tho front ancl win first place, for the contest is just now getting really fast find fui'ious. Several contestants who started late are already crowding the loaders. lA.11 who are interested in tho Queen contest should boar in- mind that the ballot iboxes will positively be lifted at 6:00 P. It. Friday, September 1st. No ballots can be accepted after that date and time. Get your vote im now for your favorite. The Midway this year will bo open on Saturday evening preceding Labor Day from 7:30 to 11:00 o’clock to permit those who found it impossible to exhaust their luck in the short time offered last year to have a double-barrel-od shot at it this year. Keep this arrangement iii mind and bo on hand Saturday evening, September 2nd., to enjoy the fun. Exhibit space is' rapidly ¡being taken up. All exhibitors should send in their entries promptly to insure having their proper allotment of space. Flowers, vegetables, baked goods, canned goods and needlework are all acceptable. If you are an artist you have your opportunity too for this year an art exhibit •has been added to those named above, , Entry blanks may bo obtained at oithor bank, at I-Iognort, the Y. M'. C. A., at Knapps, The Thrift Drug and Sewickley Pharmacy. ¡Refreshments will be available in large quantity and variety. Soft drinks, sandwiches and hot dogs1 will tempt the apjietite of young and old. For the kiddies a pony ride and a fish pond will Offer pleasant diversion. Sorry, no adults may ride tho ponies. The horseshoe experts who delighted the spectators last year will again exhibit their magic Avith the open rings. A line gymnastic and acrobatic exhibit will be offered in the late afternoon, and after .dinner the whole festival will be topped off in >a dazzling coronation ceremony in which 'the Queen of the Festival will be crowned and all her beautiful attendants will be presented to the assembled host, Dinner will be served from five to seven o’clock, for those lucky enough to have bought one of the 300 dinner tickets, That is the absolute number that will bo sold; Dallas Irvine has them in charge. Safety Circus in Edgeworth. Today At two o’clock 'this (Thursday) afternoon and at «even this evening, there will be showings of the "Safety Circus-” marionettes -in the Edgeworth School playground, the same exhibition which played in Sewickley a short 'time ago to a laughing audience seated on benches on Broad Street in front of tile big red truck which opens out imto a large stage on which 'the little marionettes perform. They do perform most amus-ingly, but also their little play, featuring Traffic Policeman Tom, impresses a most valualblo lesson in how to avoid Occidents under many circumstances in which careless people do get hurt. It’s good medicine for children—or for anybody! The show is sponsored by tho Western Pennsylvania Safety Council and Allegheny County authorities, and comcs in cooperation with the Edgeworth group which is staging the Harvest Festival in the- school ’building tonight, EDGEWORTH HARVEST FESTIVAL TONIGHT at Edgeworth School
