Sewickley Chamber of Commerce and its ad-hoc committee on parking, said the study was deigned to .addra^ a. parking situktion that she says is “very bad.” In 1985 Stalczynski’s firm interviewed shoppers, merchants and residents in an effort to'determine which factors most aff(Mt local l)usiness. Parking, they found, was a problem for all three groups. With shoi^rs reportmg the most difficulties. The survey revved that 6ne in every four shopjpiers report^ having parking difficulties while^hOppmg In Sl^ickley. Citii^ poor pwkii]^ facilities, 45 per-.bent of those interviewed said they, disliked shoiqping in the borou^. ' The study also reveled Aat i55 percent of. borough' merchants said they believed improved pariung facilities are a neceissiti^ for increased business. Current- ^ ly, we’re shprt about 50 to 60 parking spaces.” While she says a deck would help to solve the |arlang .probIeih, 'Ms: Rich doesn’t view it. as the iiltimate solution and su^ests the. construction of, two decks. s. “Two decks won’t cost much more than one will,” she says. “We haye to Ididt down the road. We have to address . tfie ilill use of the Car Bam Shoi» and . the other new businesses, ” Ms. Ridi says that a surface lot-has b^n -proposed north east of Beaver Street and construction of another garage at an as-yet undetermined location has also been suggested. Ms. Rich added that Borough Manager Steven Perry Will ask council to discuss the parking issue at the next meeting.
