Sewickley Academy’s state basketball championship sign was smashed last week. Win Farm, the Academy’s public relations coordinator, said the damage was done last Monday sometime after school. The damaged sign was discovered by Academy personnel on Tuesday morning. Ms. Farin said some young children were seen in the vicinity of SA property on Monday afternoon, but there is no concrete evidence to show who might have done the damage. The sign had just recently been placed at the Academy’s entrance to pay tribute to die boys’ varsity basketball team, which captured the FIAA Class A crown in March. Hamilton dark, headmaster of Sewickley Academy, reserved his comments for a letter to the editor (Page 9). dark says the sign will be replaced. Budget falls short By Done Si. Dnotaid ________Staff write_____ As reported by Greg Smith, Quaker Valley facilities committee chairperson, the renovations budget has been reviewed, confirmed and revised, because of a $1.5 million shortfall. Every bid has been reviewed and change orders confirmed for major items, he said, leaving some of the planned work to be paid for through fund-raising from private sources. Both the high school and middle school buildings are affected by the budget under-funding. Items that will need additional money from outside sources are the construction of a front patio at the high school, the field house, wall of fame, scoreboard and landscaping. A security system, air conditioning in the library, tech ed room, paving and masonry cleaning at the high school will be completed as dollars are collected. At the middle school, air ------Continued on Page 2 Memorial Day parade returns Sewickley’s Memorial Day Parade is back. William Fluharty, commander of American Legion Post 4 in Sewickley, says after a hiatus of more than a decade, the parade will march again this Memorial Day, Monday, May 26. “Sewickley has a great military history,” says Fluharty. The procession will begin near the American Legion at 10:30 a.m. and end with a full military ceremony at Wolcott Park.
