SCDC withdraws from Wolcott Park project By Mike May Sewickley Commercial Development Corporation (SCDC) has token its park plan and gone home^ ■ At last Monday’s meeting of Sewickley Council, Mayor Marie Guy, who also serves as president of SCDC, announced her group’s withdrawal fro'm the Wolcott Park project, citing coun* cil’s lackof commitment to a plan. She said the $32,000 raised so far will be returned to the donors. Mayor Guy was piqued by a visit to council by Mrs, Nathan (Pat) Pearson of the Village Garden Club, who told council about an alternative plan her group wants to devise for the small park. Mayor Guy lambasted “little old ladies in tennis shoes” for criticizing the SCDC plan, which she noted,, was necessitated by the garden club’s alleged failure to live up to its commitment to take care of the park. “That’s why SCDC got involved,” Mrs, Guy emphasized. She said that SCDC had been asked to come up'with a .plan for the park b^ause of complaints. “They (the garden club) didn’t take care of the eld plan, what makes you think they’ll take care of the new plan?’ The new plan for Wolcott Park will be on view to the . public in the History Room of the Sewickley Library beginning this Wednesday, Sept. 30. The plan will remain on view through Oct. 30. Hours are 1 p.m. until closing. The mayor next lambasted council for allegedly wasting SCDC’s time. “Council was not very fair to SCDC,” she said. Mrs. Guy recounted that the group had brought its plan before council back in April. She said that, at the time, council thought the plan was “very riice.” Next, she said, SCDC approached Allegheny County foi" funding. “If council had given us one negative vote,” she said SCDC Coflld have called off the project. Mrs. Guy al§o complained that council’s dragging its feet has created a problem with the new sidewalks being laid on the south side of Broad Street. The SCDC plan called for a large circle of pavement from the parfe to extend out inta the sidewalk area. However, she ■ said that when the contractor reached the park area, no one knew'how the walk .should be lajd because council had not ' acted on the plan. if P'ir» 9 20 STRAIGHT YEARS PONTIAC OVER 57?
