Man accosts female jogger in Edgeworth
Edgeworth Police Chief James Creese advises joggers — especially female ones — to beware.
A woman jogging along Creek Drive was accosted about 6:18 p.m. on Feb. 3. The woman, who was wearing a headset at the time, was approached from behind. The man fled after the woman began to scream loudly. He took off running, and the woman was picked up by a passing motorist.
The man is described as a white male, 6-foot tall, medium build, and Wearing full-length white sweat pants, a dark top and dark tennis shoes.
Creese noted that the incident is similar to an incident in Osborne on Jan. 20. A man grabbed a female jogger from behind, saying, “Don’t scream; 1 won’t hurt you,”
Creese advises joggers to refrain from wearing headsets and to jog in pairs.
Letter
on water

Bell Acres Council will have BCM Engineers draft a letter explaining the proposed water project to residents.
As explained at Monday night’s council meeting, the letter will address costs and ask for input.
Residents also will be asked to tell their preferences in public water, choosing one of the following responses: “Yes, I want public water,” or “Yes, I want public water, but cannot afford the above prices” or “No, I do not want want public water.” Responses not sent back will be counted as yes votes,
BCM will prepare a revised draft in the next few weeks and have a final one ready for council by next’s month meeting.
Francis Albright, BCM vice president, explained that the questionnaire is not required by PennVEST. “This is a little unusual,” he said. “Some council members want it done.” Preliminary fees for water as discussed in the letter can range from as low as $45.55 to $63.55 for residents receiving water from Edgeworth. The price difference will be determined by the amount of PennVEST money allocated.
Those who live on Big Sewickley Creek Road, who wifi be receiving their water from Ambridge, can expect to pay $2 more on their monthly bill than Edgeworth users.
Significant price differences come with the tap-in fees.
The Edgeworth tap-in fee is $750, which was dropped $100. For Ambridge users, the fee is $1,855. Big Sewickley Creek Road residents who fall under the low-income family bracket will be exempt from the tap-in fee, thanks to a $100,000 county Department of Develoment grant.
In the near future, council will have to decide on a mandatory tap-in fee ordinance requiring all residents who live within a specified distance from the waterline to connect. It is currently being planned at 200 feet.
If that passes, residents who fall under this category will have to pay a mandatory tap-in fee, whether or not they intend to use the water. They also will face a minimum monthly water bill.
