Sewickley Herald salutes citizens on April 30 This year’s celebration is set for Friday, April 30, at the Edgeworth Club. On that night, the Sewickley Herald will honor its Man, Woman and Citizens of the Year for 1998. The nominees are Pam Wright, Woman of the Year; Lew Safran, Man of the Year; and the Adult Board of The Belfry Teen Center of Sewickley. Since 1977, the Herald has selected candidates from a wealth of an involved citizenry for this special tribute. Pam Wright takes her place among the nominees for her kind, energetic and dedicated approach to projects large and small. As past president of Union Aid Society of Sewickley, she led the board of directors through its centennial year, planning celebrations, telling the society’s story and keeping up with the changing needs of Union Aid’s clients. Lew Safran is more than a grocer. His community efforts truly involve the bread of life — or the potatoes, the turkeys and the rest of the trimmings. For years, Sewickley groups have depended on him to supply the makings for dinners, luncheons and holiday gift baskets. With just a phone call and a list of ingredients, menus and-memories have been filled. This year he helped to sponsor the holiday concert of the River City Brass Band at Sewickley United Methodist Church. The Belfry Adult Board has brought Quaker Vailey teens from the early days of an idea and a dream to their first center home on Locust Place. While board membership has changed, the work of The Belfry is important and ongoing as parents and friends continue to provide a safe, drug-free, welcoming place for the teens of the entire Quaker Valley. Tb reserve a place at this year’s Honors Dinner, call the Herald at 741-8200. Dinner is $30 per person. The night won’t be the same without you. Watch the Herald for the candidates’ profile pieces (The Belfry’s Adult Board is featured in this issue on Page 11) and particulars of the event.
