Little Dawn Patillo and Shawn Fleming have grown up a lot since 1976, when Sewickley celebrated the nation’s 200th birthday with a series of flag-waving'events. Dawn was graduated with the Quaker Valley High School Class of 1986 and is enrolled in Swarthmore College for the fall term. Shawn got his QV sheepskin in 1985 and now holds down two jobs in his scramble for the American dream. Above, they were engaged in a minuet in teacher Martha Bidgway’s physical therapy class, a session that celebrated the dance from the minuet to the hustle. July 4, 1968,' will be The Lady’s Day, arid memories of those “tempest-tossed” might recall the early day of their lives here in America. This Fourth of July should be extra special: Lady Liberty, grand hostess to our shores, will be feted on the completion .;<rf her facelight, which has been ongoing for the past two years. And all America will be able to join the festivities via TV. • Weeklong activities will be found in LeetsdaM’p Henle Park, where Tropical year. Ten rides will be featured. A special provision for advance purchase of ride tickets has been arranged: Tickets can be purchased from any. member of the Leetsdaie Fire Department — five rides for $2. Carnival hours are 6:30-11 p.m. daily, with hours on July 4 from noon until 11 p.m. Quaker Valley’s annual community Fourth of July parade begins at Quaker Village Shopping Center at 2 p.m. A combined Colorguard representing VFW posts, from Leetsdaie, Glenfield, Sewickley and Coraopolis will lead Quaker-Valley High School Marching Band on its course through town.
