Fifteen Cents It’s Quaker Valley Football season again and the Quakers kick-off the schedule with a home game this Saturday against New Brighton at the junior high school field. Ctoach John Nusskem is very optimistic after watching the boys in several scrimmages. He expects to finish the season with a winning record. There are nine returning let-termen to the 1970 squad. Senior lettermen are Kevin Harris, Ken Morris, Tom Molitor, John McCutcheon, Tom Polk, Tom Powner and Bruce Poninsky. Junior lettermen are Tom Greenhouse and Larry Roolf. The Quakers are already suffering from injuries. Poninsky will require an operation and Frank Pickheim has a fractured ankle. The remainder of the team consists of seniors Bill (Cheddar, Tom Kumer, Ron Smith, Gordon Thomas, Don Williams; juniors Dave Arbutina, John Barber, Mike Berry, Mike Braxton, Tony Curtis, Roger DeWitt, Tom Gorle, Dennis Hencher, Joe Kumer, Kevin Nusskem, Bob Rondinelli; sophomores Cliff Abercrombie, Bill Bridgen, Jim Cortese, Joe ■ Cox, Frank Cvitkovic, Tony Floro, David Kuny, Bob Leasure, Allan Loaskie, Mike LoBello, Carl Lucci, John Maloney, Steve Masterani, Bob Powner, Ernie Russo, Bob Veshio, Dave Webster, John White, Dick Williams and Averill Harris. Queen Parade Starts Harvest Festival Fun Labor Day and the Allegheny County Fair signaled the end of summer for many of the County residents, but not for residents of the Sewickley Valley. Their summer will end when the last Harvest Festival goer heads for home and the lights are shut off for another year. The 28th HaWest Festival, cosponsored by the Sewickley YMCA and the Kiwanis Club of Sewickley, gets underway tonight with a parade of the Queen candidates^ The parade, headed by the Quaker Valley Hi^ School marching band, will form at the public library and start down -Thorn Street for Blackburn. Also in the parade will be the majorette units of the Sewickley and LeetSdale VFW posts. - The 1970 Harvest Festival Queen Will be selected from candidates Cheryl Bickel, Sandy Hite, Sandra Lee, Jenny Kear-cher and Mary Jo Skapik. The new Queen will be crowned on Saturday4 September 12, at 8:00 p.m. on the steps of the YMCA. She will reign over a teen dance in her honor Saturday .night. Every night there will be fun for the kids with Gooding Amusement Company supplying rides and the Quaker Valley Key Club manning game booths on the Midway. Returning this year will be the hole-in-one contest, the white elephant sale, the ice cream and cake social, the hobbies show and the pitching machine from Donald T. Campbell VFW Post 5756 of Sewickley. New this year will be the Sewickley Valley Board of Trade’s booth, “W&ck the Buggy.*' There will be Haller’s'western style pitted beef dinners and sandwiches every night. The dinners will also include German-style potato salad and rolls. The bake sale this year is being held on Saturday morning at Wolcott Park on the corner of Broad of Beaver Streets. An added attraction this year will be nightly events by clubs and organizations sponsored by the YMCA. All day Saturday, the First Pittsburgh Bando-Karate Tournament will be held in the YMCA and hosted by the YMCA Bando Team. There will be an admission charge for this event only. Sgt. Mflligan Stricken by Hewl Attack Sewickley Police Sergeant Williard Milligan of 548 Hill Street, Sewickley, died on Sunday, September 6, 1970, shortly after suffering a second heart attack within a month. A 27-year veteran of the force, he was also a member of St. Andrew’s United Presbyterian Church, Doric Lodge 630 F&AM, Pittsburgh Consistory. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Parsons Milligan; a daughter, Mrs. William Davis of Aleppo Township; a son, Wesley Scott Milligan of Wireton; a brothef, Ray S. Milligan of Flemington, W.Va., and three grandchildren. Friends were received at the Richard D, Cole Funeral Homfe, 328 Beaver Street, SewicWey. Rev. Kenneth White will conduct a service today at 2s 00 p.m. Interment will be in the Sewickley Cemetery. The policewomen and their posts are: Mrs. Frank Beall, Broad and Beaver; Mrs. Betty Kramer, Thorn and Broad; Mrs. Ann Pawlish, Chestnut and Thorn; Mrs. Lynn Retsch, Walnut and the Boulevard; Mrs. Carol Smith, Chestnut and the Boulevard. %e policewomen are assigned to their posts from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.irtv to 4:00 p.m. Republicans Out Register In the recent voter registration held at the Sewickley Elementary school building, 89 new voters registered from the area. Of this total, 58 registered Republican and 27 registered Democrat with 4 Independents. The community breakdowns show 26 Republican, 16 Democrats and 2 Independents from Sewickley; one Republican from Sewickley Hills; 3 Republicans and one Democrat Some of the children are crossing intersections earlier than the assigned hours for the policewomen. Parents are requested by Chief Jones to see that the children cross at guarded intersections and obey the directions of the^policewomen to prevent accidents. from Sewickley Heights; one Republican from Osborne; 21 Republicans, 5 Democrats and one Independent from Edgeworth; one Independent from Leetsdale; two Republicans, and one Democrat from Aleppo Township; 2 Republicans and 3 Democrats from Leet Township and 2 Republicans and one Democrat from Bell Acres Borough. At Tampa Univ. Dexter Saylor left on August 31 for his sophomore year at the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida, He is a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon national fraternity. He is the Son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl R,.Saylor, 219 Frederick Avenue, Sewickley.
