Wednesday, OeloLer 1,1969 Sewickley Residents Serve • In United Fund Drive Ten Cents Citizens Attend Pollution Hearing • Mrs. James H. Higgins, Mr. Frank P. Stoner, Jr. and Mr. , Robert A. McKean, Jr., of the Citizens Committee of Edgeworth recently attended the county hear-'ings on air pollution. The residents represented the Sewickley area at the hearings before the Allegheny County Board of Health and the Pennsylvania State Commission. Borough Mayors Meet In Bell Acres Members of the Borough Mayors Association of Allegheny County, at their regular monthly meet-itig held Saturday, September 27, enjoyed a most interesting and informative talk by Norman F. Bach, Manager of the Bell Telephone Company. The .meeting was hosted by the Mayor of Bell Acres Borough, Floyd B. McKelvy, and was held at the Big Sewickley Creek Volunteer Fire Hall. Women of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Big Sewickley Creek Volunteer Fire Department prepared and served the dinner. . Use of the telephone for anonymous calls for the purpose of annoying, molesting or harassing a person or his family was the theme of Mr. Bach’s talk. He discussed the many types of calls being made and how the Bell Telephone Company is attempting to cope with this problem. The importance of immediately reporting such calls to the Telephone Company, he advised his audience, could not be over emphasized. Tho XI sands of volunteers throughout Allegheny County have beeii enlisted to assume various responsibilities in this ■ fall’s United Fund Campaign for $14,936,637, a 14.9% increase over last year’s goal. Serving in the Northwestern Section'of the County in the Sewickley Area are these residents: Production Goods Division, Team Group Chairman, J. L. Turner, Assistant to the Vice President. . Office of Vice Chairman, United States Steel Corporation; Finance Division, Investment Brokers Section. Group Chairman, James R. Miller, Arthurs, Lestrange and Company; Production Services, Railroads Section Chairman, George M. Smith, Vice President and General Manager, Penn Central Company; Foundations and, Special Gifts volunteer, Herbert E. Marks, Jr., Vice President -Trust Department, Mellon National Bank and Trust Company, and Women’s Division, Apartment Chairmen, Mrs. Ernest E. Trei-del, 136 Centennial Avenue; Mrs. D. Max Marsh, Linden Place, and Mrs. Carleton M. Crick, 848 Thorn Street. Advance Gifts volunteers for the Women’s Division from the Sewickley Area include; Frederick C. Irving, Jr., Alcoa; James M. Yost, Allegheny Plastics, Inc.; John M. Thornton, Duer Spring and Manufacturing Company; John M. Trainer, Mechanical Transmission Supply, Inc.; William S. McChesney, Alcoa, and Mrs. Arthur S. Linn, 630 Canterbury Lane. Volunteers for the Business Division are: Donald Titzel; John Proud; Fred L. Bus-well, Jr., 208 Orchard Lane; Stanley H. Hoffmeier, Woodland Rd.; Robert D. Ley, 125 Peony Avenue; Mrs. Hilda Bower, 718 Beaver Street: Mrs. C. H. Cooper, 113 South Patton Drive; Mrs. Lyon (Please Turn to Page 14) ..IN SPITE OF the bltfstery weather, many people turned out to hear the Sewickley Symphony perform last Sunday. j j j Undaunted Fans Hear Symphony At Memorial Park The Sewickley Civic Symphony Orchestra under the direction 'of Vi Klimek, Conductor, played a variety of orchestral music at Memorial Park Sunday, Sept.. 28. The concert’s program included: “Tlie Star Spangled Banner”; “Battle Hymn of the Republic”; ‘Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna” Overture by Franz V. Suppe; Selections from “The King and I” by Rodgers and Hammer-stein; “Gold and Silver” Waltz by Franz Lehar; “Gems of Stephen Foster” American Fantasia; “Colonel Bogey” March by Kenneth J. Alford; “My Fair Lady” Selection by Lerner and Loewe; “The Stars an'd Stripes Forever” March by Sousa. SEWICKLEY MAYOR JAMES P. CRONIN presents a $200 check to Director Klimek for the continuation of the symphony’s fine work. The money was donated by the borough of Sewickley. School Board Candidate Presented At Leet Heights Council Meeting fjaaSii The general meeting of the Leet Heights Neighborhood Council, which was founded May 27, 1969 was held Sept. 23, 1969 a t the Leetsdale V.F.W. Prior to the start of the regular business meeting President William Nidol-son introduced Mr. Robert Murrer who is seeking re-election to the Quaker Valley School Board. Also introduced were Dr. Regis Ging and Mr. Philip Zorn candidates for office of Commissioner, _Leet Township. Each of these men gave a brief speech. At the conclusion of the meeting President William Nicolson requested a moment of silence in memory ot Mrs! Ruth Rastatter who passed away September 23, 1969.
