John-json, 58. and his wife, Martha L., of 2 Oak Drive, Leetsdale, were held, yesterday afternoon. The Se'wickley Valley Hospital staff ■ physician and Mrs. Johnson died as the result of aft accident last Saturday afternoon on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Somerset. The Johnsons were returning from a vacation in Georgia. Dr. and Mrs. Johnson were members of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Ambridge where She .was a deacon. Mrs. Johnson .was also a member of the Sew-ickley Valley Hospital Auxiliary as well as a member of the Beaver County Medical Society Auxiliary. Dr. Johnson -was a member of the American Medical Association.,the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Ambridge Country Club and had served as a daptain in the Army Medical Corps during .World War II. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Fitzgerald-Syka Funeral Home, Ambridge. with Rev. Harold Sherman, pastor of Grace United Presbyterian Church of East Liverpool, officiating. Mr. John Stevenson of Calvary Presbyterian Church assisted at the services. \ (See other obituaries on page 24). MORE COOPERATION IS NEEDED, COMMUNITY PLANNER WARNS Sewickley Family Attends Antique Auto Meet AMONG THE PARTICIPANTS at the Antique Sewickley, entered a 1911 “Brush” auto.in the Automobile Club meet at Huntington, Pa. recently competition and was awarded tliird place. Mrs. were (left to. right) David Aber, Charles Aber Aber and daughters Linda and Cynthia also had and Michael Tillery. Mr. Aber, of Witherow Road, an enjoyable time at the event. Quaker Valley communities could be described as being in the middle of a sandwich. Speaking to a group of civic leaders and citizens, a representative from the County Planning Commission warned Valley residents at a Sept. 22 meeting if they wanted a voice in the reshaping of Allegheny County their only chance is to work together. He reminded those present at the Sewickley Borough Hall the government order that bound them together as a school d i s-trict could again be used to force Quaker Valley communities to unite as a common municipality. The Thorn HiE Industrial Park complex, the addition to Greater Pittsburgh Airport, and interstate state highways 79 and 279 place Quaker Valley in the middle of a three-sided sandwich. Those county projects can be either an opportunity for the Valley or could spell the end of the 11 boroughs and townships. Mr. L. L. Little, speaker for the Allegheny County Planning Commission pointed out Quaker Valley has some of the best county (Continued on Page 25)^ Osborne Avt/^ards Bid On New Water Line The bid for a new water line . bn Orchard Street* Osborne, was ^ awarded to Peter Kukurin, Inc. of East McKeesport at the Osborne Borough Council meeting held Sept. 18. ' . Additional business brought, before council at its ddayed meeting included: —the appointment of a new school guard; ' —parents’ request for an additional school bus stop; —discussion on rehabilitation of the Borough Building; and —appointment of a new council member. Bids for the water line were received and read from 5 Companies; Fred DiNardo and Sons, ■ Pittsburgh, $4,900; Peter Kukurin, Inc., East McKeesport, $4,825; H. J. Schneider Construction, Inc., Pittsburgh, $8,024; . Mdrtin W. Wise Inc., Sewickley, $4,975; and Norman Bernardi, Pittsburgh, $8,280. Council awarded the bid to the Kukurin company provided the Jjid meets all specifications. Mr. C. E, Davis, Glen Mitchell Eoad, was appointed to School Cfuard to handle the Beaver Road* Ohio River Boulevard intersection Effective October 1. JParentg requested an additional School bus stop at Davis Lane to be handled by the westbound trip. No one at the meeting could recall the last time the Borough Building had been painted, and after, subsequent discussion, the question was decided to be reopened at, next year’s budget •hearings. Cost of repairs and pmnting for the building would probably 'entail one mill in borough taxes. Council declined to discuss the hiring of a dog catcher and referred those present to take all complaints to the Animal Control Dept, at the State Office BIdg. The resignation of Laird C. Simons was received and accepted with regret. Carl Sperigler was appointed to replace Mr. Simons in order that a quorum will be maintained for the balance of the year|s meetings. Mr. Spengler is running for council in the November election. The bands honored by invitation include those of Beaver, Riverside, Beaver Falls, Monaco-Center, Rochester and Quaker Valley High Schools. Tickets to the affair will be available at the stadium. During the same meeting, Mr. John Kriever, President, announced that there will be a meeting of the Band Parents Association on Tuesday, October 7, at 8:00 p.m. at the Senior High School, At that‘meeting, business reports of the organization will be heard and plans for the coming year will be revealed. All parents of the one hundred three member band are urged tooattend., the5«fetifiB5»i1l®0(;6liei? % Runaway "Pay Hauler" Crushes Car; One Dead A machinist al Lewis Foundry, Groveton, was instantly killed on his way home to Gibsonia Monday afternoon when a 50-ton capacity Pay Hauler’s brakes failed and rolled down the steep hillside along Narrows Run Rd., near the Sewickley Bridge, and “ran over” the victim’s halted Car. Moon Township Police Chief' Kenneth Hoover reported the victim, Samuel B, Clever, Sr., 42, of 4165 Ben Mill Rd„ was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken directly to‘ the Allegheny County Morgue where a deputy coroner said he was apparently crushed to death. His body was turned over to the Herbert R. King, Jr., Funeral Home, Route 8, Allison Park. Stopped for Traffic in describing the accident, Chief Hoover said Clever was alone in his car and Was stopped for traffic at the construction site near the bridge. A second car driven by Emma F. O’Donnell, 73, of 809 Ridgefield Ave., Mt. Lebanon, was following the Ctev-er sedan and was also stopped for the traffic, police reported. She told police that as they v/ere halted at the construction site, she could see the heavy vehicle come off the hillside and run over the car in front of her. She said it turned onto its side spilling dirt and rock over the front of her car. The accident happened at 4:17 p.m. Those Injured A passenger in her car. Klimek on Sunday afternoon, September 28, in Sewickley Val* ley War Memorial Park at 2:30 p.m., at Shelter No. 1. Ample parking and seating will be provided. However it is suggested tliat the young folks bring cushions or blankets to sit on the ground in case of a shortage o£ seats.
