Enrollment in all the schools again shows a healthy increase over last year. Quaker Valley will have, over 2,800 students, Sewickley Academy MO and St. James, 290. With the fine cooperation of the administration an^ staffs of the three schools, today’s Herald carries a wealth of information on all three. Total enrollments, new courses, new equipment, fall sports schedules and , administrative and teaching personnel data is published to help you better know these schools. Malone, of Edgeworth to the Physical Therapy Department. . (See Story on Page 25) Plans Finalized For Annual Harvest Festival 'Sewickley Borough Council held ~ a special meeting on Monday. August 18, to consider an ordinance prohibiting the conducting of business or merchandising on the streets and sidewalks of the borough. Council also considered a resolution designating a repre-sentative of the borough in all matters . concerning an addition to the sewage plant. The meeting opened with Mr, Clinton L. Childs, Council vice-president, presiding in the absence of President Richard Lord. Council reviewed the statement of receipts and expenditures for . the seven months ending July 31. 1968-69. Total receipts for the period were $477,747.24; total expenditures were $347,540.67; the bank balance’at the end of the period is $121,424.41, After ■’a brief discussion Council passed a resolution permitting President Richard Lord to sign all documents with the Fed-. eral Water Pollution Control Board in connection with a proposed addition to .the Sewickley sewage plant. Council also approved a motion to purchase a chipper for disposal of brush and other debris collected in the borough. It was pointed out by Borough Manager C. Fred Gny that the borough is no longer permitted to, burn any sort of refuse in the borough dump located in Aleppo Township, and, because of the accumulation of the debris, it has become necessary to provide some other means of disposal. chipper will be purchased unSer the emergency provisions of the borough code for the amount of $3,921. Mr. Guy also recommended that the borough purchase electric cutting, sjiears for clipping the borough hedges. He pointed out that the job now takes two men approximately 18 days. August 14, 1969, confined itself to mostly routine business. George M. Gaydos, Jr., president of council, expressed his concern over the outmoded equipment of the fire department. The fund campaign which the fire company promotes once a year does not provide them with sufficient funds to purchase necessary equipment. He suggested, therefore, that since the American LaFrance fire truck which the borough purchased for the fire department in 1964 Was paid off last year, that council offer whatever financial aid the' borough finances will permit to help the volunteer firemen purchase other badly needed equipment. Members of council all agreed that a fire company without proper equipment cannot provide adequate fire protection to a community. William E. Latta, Chairman of Property & Supplies Committee. reconimended that the fire company be requested to submit a list of ths most essential items they will need to update their equipment.
