From it, seven other candles are lit as each of the seven sentences Christ spoke from the Cross are read. At the end of the service the seven candles are extinguished in death and the Christ candle is hidden. With the lights out, the Christ canclle is restored as the only light in the church. . jThe four meditations will be based on the seven sentences in the order they appear to have been spoken so.that the-congregation may experience with Jesus the progression from the angry crowd surrounding Him at first to the silent loneliness of death three hours later. It is hoped that many people will wish to keep the entire three hour vigil before the Cross this year. However. -there will be those who cannot. The service is divided into four parts. The first part is from Noon until 12:40 p.m.; part two from 12:40 until 1:30 p.m.; part three from 1:30 uneil 2:15 p.m. and the final segment from 2:15 until 3:00 p.m. It is requested that worshippers who cannot attend the entire service:, plan to' arrive and depart at these natural breaks in the service. » Those participating in the four sections of the service will be: The Rev.
