T.WHITE Mrs. John McCullough died at her home in Bast Brookvllle on Saturday evening, of a complication of diseases Incidental to old age. she being between 70 and 80 years of age at the time of uer death. Her funeral took place on Tuesday, Interment being made In the Butler Cemetery. The hnndsomo residence of Mr and Mrs. Henry G. Verstine, on South Pickering street, binned to the ground on Wednesday afternoon of last week. The alarm was sounded at 1:30 p. m. On account of the icy condition of the roads and there being no bridge crossing Red Bank at Pickering street, the ft re apparatus had to be taken round by way of the White street bridge. Upon reaching the scene of the tire it was found that the water pressure was so light that the flames could not be reached. The fire had started from a stove that had Leen placed too near the wall in an attic room. Plenty of help was promptly on hand but the blaze was between the inside walls and the weathr boarding. When it was found that nothing could be done towards quenching the flames every effort was then made to save the contents of the building. In this effort the fire fighters were successful, as everything moveable, even to windows and doors, furniture and fixtures, was taken out. The Are burned slowly and It was three hours and a half before the entire structure was burned to the ground. The residence was probably the best frame dwelling house In town, having been built over thirty years ago by Mr. B. Verstine at a cost of over $12,000. There was no Insurance on either the building or contents. Mr. H. O. Verstine had during the past summer remodeled the house at a cost of over *4,000 and had Intended Insuring the property as soon as the repairs were entirely completed. The Holy City.
