It is just a bit amusing to hear a would-be professional fisherman telling how he "whipped" tho stream from its head to its mouth and never "got a rise." This very young man knows, iust as you do, that he "whipped" it with anywhere from two to six feet of line ; with the old reliable angle worn for bait, and the first thing he could find handy for a pole. By "not getting a rise" you also nnderstand that he failed to get what is technically known as a "bite," and if he had got one, It is altogether likely that the three-inch specimen, if seen rely hooked, wonld have sailed upward with twenty feet of line, unwound from the pole, into the limbs of a tree overhead from whence it is rescued after much exertion and some profanity. This is a result which frequently attends getting a "rise" of the sort the sporty young fisherman likes to talk about. But it is after all, a natural and altogether harmless style of fish talk. The young man enjoys it and we encourage him by listening, which gratifies him still more. We know this to be true, because wo have "whipped" a stream ourself.—Oil City Bli/.- aard. Dr. Stunkard dressed the wound and he is getting along nicely. The tunnel on the new railroad is progress - ing nicely. Work is being pushed on ballasting the road from the tunnel towards Lindsey. On Sunday the tunnel was thronged with people from far and near who wore anxious to see it, and a great many passed throug h. At present they have the arching about half completed. Bev. Muller, of Punxs'y, delivered a forcible lecture on temperance at the Congregational Church Thursday evening, to a good audience. The lecture throughout was very good, and well listened too by those present. A meeting of miners and mine laborers was held in the school house Monday evening where W. B.
