EBERHART, That the war is over there is little doubt. Nothing remains but the adjustment of minor details. Already our troops are moving north. Many of our brave Pennsylvania boys will not get the much coveted boat ride, nor a chanco to try their aim on a live Spaniard for target practice. There is great reason to rejoice that the victory has been to decisive, and the loss of life small, as compared to what the most hopeful had predicted. It's full history will be read, commented and criticised; it's heroes eulogised for ages to come. What effect this will have on us in this section remains to be seen. One thing is certain, it will tend to make nil linos of trade more active, ami values more certain than for some years past. This will cause tho prudent to buy more liberally, and those who possess good lines of staple merchandise, to lie less inclined to wholesale slaughter, for no one will sell for less to-day than he can buy to-morrow. There always have been Faki: dealers, who cry loud that they have a corner in which to squeeze out honorable competition. The folly of this claim has always exposed itself. That wo have been fair to our competitors in all our statements of prioes and quality will be attested by all. We never sav "go and soe if you can do better, and come back and we will make it less," nor aro we among tho class referred to recently by some one who said : "Will not namo price. Conio see for yourself. It has boen told me some merchants watch my and try to sell at same." Anything we sell wo namo a price that holds good for tho goods referred to. As our now Fall Goods arrive, from time to time, wo shall take pleasure in naming pricos in this space, or by mail at your request, and quality will always bo tho best that tho market has. We also try to keep tho price for your produce to a mark that you may be able to furnish tho bost, and thus get tho most for your time and investment. Our aim will bo as it has been in the past, to make this the ''People's Popular Store." where the motto is "Same Price Saino Day to Everybody." Wo do not claim perfection, but our aim is to please. For your liberal patronage of tho past wo thank you, and as we ask for a continuance of same, I am yours truly, Pt NXSLKAW.NEY, Pa., Aug. II, 18!)8. [Philadelphia Inquirer.] The authorities and people of l'hiladelpeia ami New York are speculating upon the probable causes of two extraordinary additions to the annuls of crime—a double suicide In the one city and an apparently unaccountable murder in the other. About the same time occurred a murder and suicide in Lancaster county and a general outbreak of less startling crimes in other parts of the country. It is a curious fact that crimes of the ilrst rank, crimes against life, appear to belong to the summer season almost as much as in the country broken limbs accompany the cherry seaaon and cases of drowning the skating seaaon. Vigorous persons do not go through a summer such aa the present one has been without some loss of vitality and some depreication of the nervous system. I« it not probable that the crimes of the paat week are in part due to the debilitating effects of extreme heat upon the physical organization ? Boy IXHiaea a. Leg. A sad accident took place at the blaat furnace Thursday forenoon, by which a 10-year-old son of Onorga Sholts, of Punx'y, lost one of his legs. He in company with some companions was playing about one of the big backets belonging to the unloading crane, and in soma manner the heavy bale of tha backet fell and eaaght the boy when he had hia lag lying across tha edge of tha bucket.
