Sergeant Corrigay has sent a telgraru there notifiying them of the young man's death. Meantime tho police are further investigating as foul play is suspected. Newtown-, L. I., Sep. U2.—Max Conraddi, aged 1!), of New York, was arraigned before Justice Po-.vers, at this place, under peculiar circumstances. lie was brought from the Bowery Hay station house by Sergeant Corrigan, where ho had been locked up all night. Conraddi entered the station house Sunday evening, and depositing a bundle of clothing on the Sergeant's desk, Baid that the clothing belonged to his friend, Frank 0. Jaynes, aged 21, who, ho said, had been drowned off Bowery Bay Beacli in the afternoon. Young Jaynes boarded at the house of Mrs. Mary Iiidwell at tho address given by Conraddi. Sho is an aunt of Conraddl's. Jaynes came from San Francisco, Cal., some time ago to study law at Columbia College. Ho was preparing to pass tho Regent's examination. Conraddi, on being questioned by Sergeant Corrigan, made contradictory statements, which induced tho Sergeant to lock him up. Ho said that.Jaynes had accompanied him to Bowery Hay Sunday afternoon, and that atabout4o'clock they went out in a boat, and on reaching Hiker's Island they went in bathing. After Jaynes had been in tho water a short timo he suddenly called for help, threw up liis hands and then sank. Conraddi said t hat ho started to go to hi# friend's assistance, but lie disappeared before ho could reach him. Tho clothing which Conraddi brought to the station was of fine material, and tliero was a gold watch and chain attached to tho waistcoat. Tho Sergeant asked Conraddi if Jaynes bad any money with him when they started to Bowery Iiay. Conraddi replied that Jaynes always carried more or less money and was surprised that none was found In tho clothing. Kammerer, who murdered his wife Thursday morning,hanged himself in jail during t he night, and when out down in the morn ing was dead, 'i'lio coroner roudered a verdict Saturday of wilful murder. Kant merer was Intoxicated at the time he killed his wife, and it is supposed that the Coroner's verdict was the cause of his suicide. U2.—Max Conraddi, aged 1!), of New York, was arraigned before Justice Po-.vers, at this place, under peculiar circumstances. lie was brought from the Bowery Hay station house by Sergeant Corrigan, where ho had been locked up all night. Conraddi entered the station house Sunday evening, and depositing a bundle of clothing on the Sergeant's desk, Baid that the clothing belonged to his friend, Frank 0. Jaynes, aged 21, who, ho said, had been drowned off Bowery Bay Beacli in the afternoon. Young Jaynes boarded at the house of Mrs. Mary Iiidwell at tho address given by Conraddi. Sho is an aunt of Conraddl's. Jaynes came from San Francisco, Cal., some time ago to study law at Columbia College. Ho was preparing to pass tho Regent's examination. Conraddi, on being questioned by Sergeant Corrigan, made contradictory statements, which induced tho Sergeant to lock him up. Ho said that.Jaynes had accompanied him to Bowery Hay Sunday afternoon, and that atabout4o'clock they went out in a boat, and on reaching Hiker's Island they went in bathing. After Jaynes had been in tho water a short timo he suddenly called for help, threw up liis hands and then sank. Conraddi said t hat ho started to go to hi# friend's assistance, but lie disappeared before ho could reach him. Tho clothing which Conraddi brought to the station was of fine material, and tliero was a gold watch and chain attached to tho waistcoat. Tho Sergeant asked Conraddi if Jaynes bad any money with him when they started to Bowery Iiay. Conraddi replied that Jaynes always carried more or less money and was surprised that none was found In tho clothing. Kammerer, who murdered his wife Thursday morning,hanged himself in jail during t he night, and when out down in the morn ing was dead, 'i'lio coroner roudered a verdict Saturday of wilful murder.
