Marion, Ky., Feb. 19.—A terrible dif- iase made its appearanoe in Webster bought that it had spent its fury, as no county a few weeks ago, an account of which was published in this paper. It raged disastrously for a time, and it was uew cases were reported for ten days, but it has reappeared in more virulent f rm than before, It has broken out near Dixon, the county seat, and nine new cases have developed near Free Union. Four deaths occurred Satarday, and the other five are not expected to live. Five more new cases developed this morning. It seems as a waste of both time and money to summon medical assistance, as death is sure to follow in every case. The excitement is greater than ever bo fore. The malady is confined to a strip of territory bordering on a small stream called Crab Orchard creek. In one family of seven only the father escaped. Up to the present only two have recovered from the disease, one of whom is totally blind, and the other is a cripple for life. To date there have been over SO deaths. The resolution pledges the members of the associa- t ion to decline to allow any elect ic current under their control to be usod for snc'i ignoble purposes. The reasons for the adoption of the res ohition was stated to be because the agitation for the eUctrical death method was almost, wholly due to the efforts of per-ons interi sted in arausing ptejndice Hg.inst pow erful elei tiic light currents by exaggerating their d ingers. The latest to give public utterances to such thoughts is the vice- gal representative of Victoria on tbis side of rhe water, Lord Stanley, Governor of Canada. At least the hints which he dropped during a speech this afternoon at the annual meeting of the Do minion Artillery Aswieiatiou at Otta.ua are generally believed hero to foreshadow at no distant day, the nececsity of the Ca'.ucians to take up arms to defend the'r homes. He thought that in these dajs every able-bodied man should bo a soldi, r of the empire, and in more than any other quarter of the empire at present, especially in this Dominion of Canada. They knew the people were nspicted as they respi'Cted themselvf s, and that they should act accordingly. The sky at present was clear, but there we're serious questions to set tie, and no one knew what moment the cessity of defense would arrive. He prayed to G >d that, the time would be long in coming, lie thought the Imp rial Government would furnish any quality of arms and ammunition, if the Canadian militia hinted that they wanted th< m.
