Private Haubcr has luajn out of the Regular Army less than a month, having enlisted in Company 1, 47th United States Volunteers at the bt ginning of the Spanish-American War. with which body he served in t ie Philippines. Later he joined the 72nd company of Coast Artillery and when discharged last month, was ranked as a sergeant and a llrst-elass gunnel-. More than l-."> members and invited guests of Punxsiuawmy Lodge No. 498, Knights of Pythias turned out Monday evening to celebrate the fortythird anniversary of the founding of the order. During the evening appropriate addresses were made by II. P. Campbell, the first Chancellor Commander of Punxsutawncy Lodge, who spoke on the "Growth of the Order." IU'V. II. (». Tee.garden made the address of welcome, and Father Kuntz. of Harrisburg, spoke on "The origin cf the Order." The celebration of the Feast of Purlin, a Jewish holiday, will be observed in all Jewish houses of worship on Wednesday evening and Thursday of this week. Services will be held in the synagogue, both morning and evening, at which time the Rook of Esther will be read from a special parchment scroll used on that occasion only. The day commemorates the deliverance of Jews from the plot of Hainan to exterminate them. The holiday Is celebrated In the cities in a very elaborate manner socially, balls, banquets and entertainments of all kinds being Indulged In.
