Stlh s at the meeting on Wednesday i veiling. It was nil aliout the election of a teacher. Four teachers were promoted and another sleeted, before the major-ity of the Hoard knew it; and all ef-forts to undo the work w ere unsuccess-ful. The denth of Miss Itockhill made a vacancy, and the Teachers and 'I ext Hooks Committee made a report to the Board advocating the election of Miss Amanda Sliiigluff as a substitute to teach in Miss Uockhill's room until next Juno; all the present teachers to plain their rooms until that date when promotions were to be made and a teacher elected for the primary room. These recommendations were made as the committee thought It would de-moralise the teaching to make changes 'ii the middle of the term. This report was signed by President Oeorge M. Stiles John P. Bowker and William i 'leaver. Mr. Jones who Is a member of the committee, would not sign the report, lie believed In making the promotions Immediately, and made a verbal re-port advocating the promotion of Miss Calne to the vacancy In Miss Uock-hill's room; the promotion of Miss Matthews to Miss Calne's room; the promotion of Miss Steelo to Miss Mat-thew's room: Miss O'Neil to Miss SI. i Is room anil the election of Miss Sllngluff to Miss O'Neill's room. The President stated the two re-ports wore before the Hoard, and SSked what shall l>o done with Hum? Mr. Lindsay moved that the report of the majority of the committee be adopted, It failed of a seconder nnd was dropped. Mr. Smith moved that the minority report be adopted. This was done ilu re being practically no objection to the motion. After the report was adopted Mr. i'leaver arose to bis feet and said as he understood the motion, there was nothing to lie done now but the elec-tion of a substitute teacher, that is If Ihe Board wanted any more substi-tutes. The chair decided that Mr. Cleaver was right. This raised a storm of opposition A number of the members did notknow ilia I I lie HOoniioH of the rrport rlwtpit a teacher and made the promotions. Mr. Lsey made a written objection to the ruling, and Ihe chair placed It be-fore the Hoard, a vote lesulted in a tie, and the chair decided that the ob-jection was not sustained. Mr. Collins still persisted In his ob-jection nnd President Stiles said fiat he would entertain another objection and vote on it. This was done and again lost. The petition of the pupils of the High School for a change In the hi.urs of teaching to make it a continuous session from nine to two o'clock was debated and defeated, Messrs. Lind-say. Ilowker. Stiles anil Jones voting in Its favor. The Superintendent reported 128 pu-pils on tho roll and an average at-tendance of 547.
