Jumped or !:.■<!. :it Sixth avenue and trcet about 12 30 yester-d: iv morning Mr and Mrs Henry Sauter. of 411 \.*nth avenue saw the girl unconscious lying tn the gutter Ac-cording to Mrs Sauter she and her husband were at Second avenue and Fayette street, about to enter their automobile when they sa wthe door of the car In which the girl was riding, open. The car. at that time, was oppo<e St Matthew's rectorv. Mrs Sauter remarked to her hus-band that the girl was trying to aet out The husband said We will follow lhe car and see what hap' pens." Mr Sauter speeded up his cor but was unable to overtake the MMMM In front of them As they reached Sixth avenue. Mra. Sauter aw tlie girl lying In the gutter The car wan stopped and they got out and went to the girl's assistance She was unconscious. A minute later, a man stopped at the scene. As soon as he noticed the girl he said he would summon Acting Ofn-rr- r James Wertz who was In the block between Fourth and Fifth avenues He was hastfly summon-ed and commandeered another ma-chine and took the Injured girl to the office of Dr. HargTeavea. who ordered her removal to Montgom-ery Hospital, where an examination revealed she had suffered ! «, ra-tions of the scalp and brush* burns about the body Her condition M not serious. The girl had attended a wedding lluapHuil in the K. of C. Halt. Sec-ond avenue and Fayette street, dur. ing the evening and left the place after midnight, after she met Oal loway. who was outside the build-ing. Oalloway. in a signed statement, according to Thief Blake said hr picked the girl up at Second avenue and Fayette street shortly after 12. Between Second and Third avenue she told him she did not want to go but he told her he would drive out as far as Twelfth avenue, and at Sixth avenue she Jumped out. The statement further said, according to the officer that Oalloway drove to Ninth avenue to Harry street and back to Second avenue and Fayette street that he did not look back and made no effort to go back to the scene of the accident Accord lnB- to the statement the car was traveling at about 35 or 40 miles an Imtjr The car is supposed to be-long to John Tusseline.
