Ufhl: Mr. Hagenbueh reported the placing of tralBc light on achool alley. He reported his committee held a meeting for the consideration of Boulevard Lighting but that the engineer would present figures. Mr. Jones stated that he had a proposi¬ tion from the Oeneral Electric Co., eoverlnt 37 ornamental boulevard llghU at a cost of I3SJ1I.00 and that he figured the malntenanee at $400.00 per year with the power to be purchased at the transformer at an approximate cost of $40000 monthly. The committee therefore recommended that due to the ex¬ pense and present financial condi¬ tion ot the Borough the question should be postponed. On motion of Messn. Korti and Undenmoyer, It was moved that the report of the Light Committee be accepted. Pavement: Mr. Knauas reported progress The Chief Burgess pres¬ ented the names of property owners whose pavements were In poor con¬ dition and suggested that Council mall notices to these property own¬ ers to repair their pavements tem¬ porarily if not in a postlon to fix them permanently. The question of how this matter should be handl¬ ed was considered and the advice ot the Solicitor accepted. Mr. Korti suggested that we con.slder at our next meeting the question of In¬ cluding In our 1037 Budget an ap¬ propriation to take care of pave¬ ment improvements where the pro¬ perty owner did not comply with the notice to do so, so that the costs nf the improvements could be legally collected. The Burge.ss called Council's at¬ tention to the drainage condition, poor road bed. etc.. at Intersection ol Spring Street and Phoenix Road. which was referred to the Highway Cnmmittee. He al.so suggested plac¬ ing a light at this Intersection In Older to avoid accidents, which was referred to the Light Committee. Dear Slr:- The following letter was presented to Boro Council at their meeting Monday evening, December 7th > Naiareth, Pa Dee. 7, 1936 "To the Chief Burgess and Members of the Nazareth Borough Council Att: Clarence Fehnel, Secretary, Nazareth, Penna. Kindly allow me to go on record in presenting to your honorable body, facts and figures relative to the Taxpayers on Bissell West End Building lots Tract No. 2, and now a part of the Borough of Nasareth Map Recorded at Easton, Pa., here¬ to attached as a part of this letter to indicate thc point of view. FIRST: The Triennial Assess^ ment 1930 and 1933 for this particu lar part of the Borough of Nazareth was about Sixty Seven Thousand Five Hundred and Ten ($67,910.00) Dollars with about fifty (50) so call- ed homes and a Silk Mill. Borough tax for 1929-1930-1931- 1932-1033-1934-1935 and 1936 was about Fifty Four Thousand ($54, 000 00) Dollars. School tax for 1929-1930-1931-1»32 1933-1934-1933 and 1936 was about One Hundred Thousand ($100,000.00) Dollars. SECOND: In return for this One Hundred Fifty-four Thousand ($154,- OOOOO) Dollars taxes for thU parU- cular oommttnlty in eight yean we got about $3,000.00 road improve ments. The fftld covers one square with a frontage of 550 feet on Boat Cen« ter street. 353 feet on Market street, 503 feet on Croas street and 344 feet on Liberty street The property Is enclosed with a Bethanlmd wire fabric fence, seven feet high with two entrances on Crosa street, two on Liberty street and two on Center street. The main entrances are located near the Intersection of Liberty and Cross streets, where a six foot by six foot ticket booth, hav¬ ing two wickets Is located. The field proper Is reached by using a pair of concrete steps leading from the main entrances. The field contains a track, base¬ ball diamond and football gridiron. all located so that the various sports may be followed at the same time without interfering with one an¬ other. I The remainder of the track Is 20 feet I in width with a toUl length of 000 feet. The football and baaebaU fields are located within the track with the baseball diamond having a grass Infield. Separate space is provided for dummy tackling practice. Bleachers with a total capacity of 1300 will be located on the North and South sides of the field The School Board at a recent meeting purchas¬ ed new bleachers with accomoda- tioiu for 520 spectators. These bleachers are to be delivered and erected next spring. The Board is looking forward to purchasing addi¬ tional bleachers to be delivered dur¬ ing the summer months so they will be available for uae next fall. The field will be completed and ready for use next spring. The School Board did not deem It ad¬ visable to use the field during the football season which closed on Thanksgiving day because construc¬ tion work was carried on at that time and there was too much of a luzard from the point of view of the spectator.s safety and also that all tlio work .should be completed before using the field A sprinkling system was purchased and used for the nr.st time during the pa.st summer and fall months Practically all of the work on the field was done with WPA labor. The public may be Interested In the following ngures covering this work: 2500 cubic yards of earth and rock were excavated: 400 ton of cinders were used for the track; 20 cubic yards of concrete was used for the step.s; 1600 square yards of surface covered with the top soil were used, and 200 cubic yards of top soil was stored for future use. The work was carried on under the direction of the Grounds com¬ mittee consisting of Elwood Unang.st and Robert Pauly with William 811- fles. Superintendent of Grounds and Building in direct charge.
