P. H. Martin, president, presided. Reports were heard from the High¬ way C:mmiltee on widening the curve along the Nazareth-Bath pike, near Walsh's Oarage. It was an¬ nounced that the Chamber received word from the District Engineer, J. C. McCarrel, that there may be a W. P. A. project set up for widening this route with the recommendation of adding three feet of paving on each side ol tlie present pavement. The Industrial Committee, headed by E. C. Champion, reported that according to present developments, the McCollum and Post factory building would be occupied within the near future. A rug concern. It was stated. Is making preparations to open a pl.int here and is making repairs now to start operations soon. President Martin appointed at this meeting a committee on arrange¬ ments for the Eleventh Annual Din¬ ner meeting of the Chamber to be held at The Naaareth Inn. Priday evening. Januar>' 19th, at 6:30 o'¬ cloek. Special arrangements are on foot for an open meeting with In¬ vitations going out to all business¬ men and interested citisens to at¬ tend. The speaker, It was announc¬ ed, will be Richard P. Brown, Secre¬ tary of the Department of Commerce of Pennsylvania. The program, sponsored by The Nazareth Merchants A.ssoclatlon, st.irted at 7 o'clock with Tlie Nasa¬ reth Choral Society and the Mora¬ vian Trombone Choir rendering Christmas carols from the veranda 2f the Nazareth Inn. Motta's Radio furnished the amplifying system broadcasting the carols while chU¬ dren and parents waited for Santa to arrive. Arranged directly In front of the Nazareth Inn wa.s a ramp construct¬ ed by Nazareth Firemen, for the youngsters to walk right up to Santa, rccelw their gift and exit In perfect order through a roped-off .section of the strert policed by Firemen, head- cd by Stanley Wojdring, president of the Fire Comp.uiy. Long before Santa arrived chil¬ dren eight years and under formed 111 line within the ropcd-ofl area, including many mothers and fathers with tiny tots, ready to greet him .IS he entered with two big trucks, loaded to capacity with cartons con- t.lining over two thou.sand bags of goodies. Santa's vehicle, driven and decorated by Oeorge Meeser, had a Christmas tree stationed on each comer of the truck, a red chimney In the center, with Santa standing In the middle of heaped up gifts all around htm. A second vehicle was necessary, driven by Prank Hommer, and also loaded to capacity, followed Santa to the lineup at the ramp. It wasn't long after Santa ar¬ rived when the long line started to move and each in line received a bag containing .\ half pound <U candy, an orange, pretzels. cookle.s and chewing aum. It kept S.\nta busy for a Uttle more than two hours handing out the gifts, and the firemen keeping ord T. Movies and pamphlets have also been presented to our schools to emphasise the spread of tubercu- tosls. Since May, 1938, the society has provided serum and material neces¬ sary for the Mantoux test, which was administered to the students of senior high school.
