During the World War. he served 16 months In the I'nited States army. ¦¦• I While Lutheran Annexed Property To Be Assessed hundreds of staunch al¬ umni were loath to credit the news, figures made public by the heads show that the old military academy could not be longer con¬ tinued, unless a large fund cf ready cash eoald be made avail¬ able at once. The debt shadow¬ ing the historic old school is above haps anotlier $ loir.ooo. In con¬ trast to the fact th tt hundreds of blunmi and others are now bewail¬ ing the matter of the school's closing looms tbe other significant fact that in a quiet drive made two years ago for funds only 99.- OOO could be raised. Faced with a flnancial crisis tiie school's dir¬ ectors took the only means of re- ' lievlng the school of its debts and saving a still larger li-jhiiity. The I academy had heen operated for I some time at a steadily mounting deficit and the board members felt that ft) continue under the circumstances would be ruinous.
