A festival will be given by the Ladies' Guild of Derry Presbyterian church on the above date at the Hose House, Her-shey. The ladies wish to place pews in the church and are in need of your help. If you will be yourself, defy conven-tions, walk over customs, preach new doctrines, go by short cuts, pay the price cheerfully, accept ridicule, cal-umny, brickbats, poverty, prison, with good nature. A savior disappointed because men will not be saved by him, misreads the universe. — Hugh Penticost. .'. . v A Festiva l fy Ladies ' Mi .of Deny Presbyterian Church , Wednesda y, June 8 Work Started on the Swimmin g Pool Will Be 150 Feet Long, About 50 Feet Wide and 6 Feet Deep EH Rhine and his force of men started to dig out the old swimming' pool on Thursday morning. The . pool will be 150 feet long, 50 feet wide and its depth will vary from three to six feet. . When excavated this pool will be given a layer of concrete, about half a ' foot in thick-ness. The pool will be filled every week and emptied, and in this way the water will be of a suitable temperature for bathing purposes. He, with a number of others, are going to get busy some of these evenings, and if anybody wishes to lend a helping hand they will be given an opportunity of doing so. They decided to work out another play, and give the same sometime in June, in the large theatre in the Park. Another Stiow TJieir Names are "Mag" and "Bob ," and They are Fine Specimens There, was great excitement in Her-shey in the earlier part of the week. The two American black bears had ar-rived. They were put in 'the large pit on Monday and the men engaged in this job had quite a time of it. The ,,bears were very well satisfied to get put of their cages, and they jumped into the pool ;of water and they did all kind of monkey-shines. A large number of people witnessed this, but on- Tuesday it seemed as though- the. whole county, had^turhed out to. see Brer Bruin. . You will go long and far before you will see a pair of bears that will come up to these.
