Has Started off , Will Close February 3 SSSjIONDAY mqrnin g the Hershey 1^1 I Young Men's Christian As- \ \§ sociation began a big cam- SSSl. paign for new members that is to continue for three weeks. Every one of the 152 men who are members at the present time are to have a part in the campaign. The plan is thisr . The whole membership of the As-sociation has been divided into two teams. At the head of the teams as captains are William F. R. Murrie-and Si Dt Clark. Under each captain are seven lieutenants who in turn have un-der them nine or ten men. In this way each member of the Association is to have a part in the campaign. The two teams ' are to be known by the names .of their respective captains, Their 'lieutenants are: . ' :.. ' " ' • M urrie vs :men—Joseph Snavely, Frank B. Snavely, George Eppley, Al. Wirth, Russell Stoner, H. S. Moyer, and David Kreider. Clark's men—G. E. Copenhaver, A. T. Heijman, Andrew Myers; Ira Her-shey, Joseph Hills, Dr. M. L. Nissley, and Eugene Pocoek. .. . The contest is to see which team can bring in the most members before February 3. The contest began on Monday morning but it wilj take the greater part of this week for the cap-tains to get their men together and their work organized. . .. . • WHO CAN JOIN AND HOW Membershi p in the Association is open to every man of ; good character in the community. It is the aim of this campaign to give every man in the community a personal invitation to join. In order to become a member it is necessary for the applicant to fill out an application blank that gives name, address, occupation, church membership or church preference and age. This blank must be put into thfe hands of the Genera! Secretary of the Association with three dollars. This pays the dues for one year. The ap-plication is then presented to the Board of Directors and must be passed by them before the membership ticket is issued^. PRIVILEGES As soon as the application and the dues are received the applicant is given a receipt which admits- the 'bearer to the full privileges of the Association. This includes the use of the,gymnas-ium, showers, swimming pool, game rooms and reading room. The reading room, however, is.. open to all men whether they are members or not. TO WIND UP February 3 is the date when the campaign will close. On the afternoon and evening of that day there will be "Open House" at the Y,. M. C. A. The building will be thrown open to the public at that time. A special effort will be made to get all the new mem-bers out at that time. On that even-ing announcement will be made regard-ing the .winning team.. When the count is made only those applications that are paid will be included. SPECIAL In order to give the men of the community an opportunity to see the advantages of Association membership, the social committee is making ar-rangements for a social evening at the rooms of the Association on Thursday evening, January 25. At this time the whole building will be open. There will be special work in. the gymnasium in addition to an exhibition game of volley ball and such other gymnasium work as may be arranged. Eefreshr-ments will be served in the reading room and everything will be done to make the evening a . pleasant and pro-fitable- one. All men in the communi-ty are welcome to attend the stunts of this evening; . There will be no admis-sion or. silver offering. The gymnasi-um work will begin at 8 o'clock. ; Teachers and Directo rs Meet Assembled at McKinley High School Thurs-day Evening For Discussion of the New School Code 0 " IN order to get a better under-standing of thenew schoo l code, _____ the. teachers and members of the Board of Directors of Derry township schools met at the McKinley High school building last Thursday even-ing. All Of .the teachers were present and all of the members of '. the Board except Daniel Hershey who was out of town. E. M. Hershey, attorney, .was present and gave an explanation of the new law in detail, sit is the intention of the Board and teachers to enforce the law in every detail in the future^ Men's Meeting at the Y. M.C <A C^rjJEETINGS are being held at the l_f I '"Y--M.' 'Q/A. each .' Smiday^af- HM ternoon.as has been announced from time to time. The meeting last Sunday was addressed by Prof. L. E. McGinnes, of Steelton. Special attention of all the men in the community is called to the meet-ings that will be held the next, two Sundays. Mr. 0. P. Beckley, of Har-risburg, is the speaker for the meeting next Sunday. Mr. Beckley is at the head of the Men's Movement in the United Brethren Church . He: will speak on the "Men and Religion Move-ment" at the Hershey Y. M. ti A. The meeting on Sunday, January 28, will be in charge of the Men's Bi-ble class of the United Brethren Church. The class will have full charge of the meeting and . the arrangements for it. The speaker that they have secured for that occasion is Mr. 0. M. Wilson, of Johnstown, Pa. - All the meetings are held at three o'clock in the afternoon. All men are invited to attend the meetings; Men do not lack strength; they lack the will to concentrate and act. 0 " |HE Board of Directors of the Y; W. C. A. met Wednesday ' ev-ening and formerly elected Miss Alice Elder as their general secretary. All are delighted with the prospect of work soon to begin, A full meeting of the Association will be called next week and by that time plans and outline of work for term will be formu-lated. Classes in dressmaking, millin-ery and gymnasium will : be'' started as soon as possible: AU desiring to enter these classes should get in touch with the secretary at Room 15, Hershey Inn. \ Y. W. C. A. Work to Take Definite Form m ' IARRY WIRTH, the "Saturday Evening Post' ' boy of Hershey, , is the proud possessor of a handsome 19-jewel gold watch which he has won as a prize for selling the most "Posts" in any town in Penn-sylvania of the size of Hershey, during an thirteen weeks contest. The watch is the prize put up by the president of the company. . Harry says he had no thought of being the winner of the contest until he received the watch.
