Hershey Estates President John B. Sol-lenberger was host to the officers and committee people, with sixty-one persons at-tending. JACQUES Second Hershey Football Player .Gets Top Notice Consistent mention for All- American honors — along with his brilliant play all sea-son for the Nittany Lions of Penn State --77 has been keep-ing the name of Les Walters before the football fans of the nation. • . The fleet-and glue-fingered Penn State end has been list-ed by the Associated Press as one of the top prospects for ' an All-American end position. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester K. Walters,-Sr., of _Un-ion Deposit, -the Penn State • gridder is a raduate of Her-shey High School in the Class of 1954. Walters was a- high school teammate and class-mate of- Frank .Ca p it-an i , Gettysburg College fullback who has been nominated for All-American by the Football Writers Association. •. Walters, at weekend, was the thirteenth ranking -pass receiver in the nation, and had scored more touchdowns .than dny of the ends mentioned by the Associated Press as All- American prospects. He was named Lineman of the Week- recently -by the AP for his offensive.and defensive play against Syracuse.. A check for $3,337.74—net proceeds from the 1957 Cocoa Bean football game — was turned over recently by the Hershey Rotary Club to the Derry Township School"Dis-trivt to be )-)1:. ell in the Me-morial Field Playground fund. In the photo at left, Ro-tary Club President Rich-ard L. Uhrich (left) pre-sents the check to Dr. L. E. Jacques, superintendent of - schools. The Cocoa Bean Game is sponsored annnally by the Ro-tary Club with the 'coopera-tion of the Milton Hershey School and HersheY High School, and the proceeds — after expenses — are handed' over by .the Rotarians *to the School District. • The money is'placed in a Special- Memorial Field Play-ground account, which is; ad-ministered by the Board of School Directors and. used for improvements to the physical plant of the playground. Although the Cocoa Bean Game is sponsored by the Ro-tary Club, the Rotarians have no jurisdiction over the subse-quent handling of the funds which are earmarked for Me-morial Playground under a long-standing agreement be-tween the cooperating organi-zations. 'Playground equipment pro-vided by this fund over the years has included sliding boards, swings, teeter-boards, merry-go-rounds, sand boxes, shuffleboard -courts, tennis courts and outdoor basketball courts. In the -past two., years in-creased lavatory facilities have been provided in this way, as well as an office set-up for the summer programs. Benches and tables for picnic outings were also- purchased from this fund. In the summer of 1956 bleacher seats were purchased Hershey Bank Distributes 1957's Christmas Savings .The postman was the bearer of glad tidings of the sea-son at the end Of last week, when $213,657.50 in Christmas Savings Club-checks was distributed from the Hershey Na-tional Bank. - : The Christmas Club checks were mailed out to 2,058 club members in the area. This year's total amount saved through the bank's special account system showed an increase' of $9,453 over the 1956 Christmas Club, when $204,204.50 was distributed: The number of accounts this year was 2,058, as compared with 4,895-in 1956. • The bank announced that. the 1958 Christmas Club will get under way on Tuesday, December 3. The- amounts- saved in the Special accounts will largely go for Christmas buying. However, bank- officials estimated that from ten to twenty per cent of the amounts paid out to the account hold-ers will be turned into some form of further savings. Some of the Christmas Clubbers annually use a part of their check as ,a nest, egg in starting off the new Christmas savings project. . . Other club savings are used for special purposes such as payments on insurance, Mortgages or other financial projects. • A number of Christmas Club accounts are taken out each year as gifts to other family members. . Last summer sCoreboards were built for all ball fields and a new flight-of:steps was constructed, leading from the running track to a level imme-diately south of the track. -Extensive repairs were made also to the fireplace and ovens during the past sum-mer. A fence was built along Homestead Road from Areba Avenue to a point south of the running track, providing in-creased safety for those par-ticipating in the recreational programs. Among other improvements afforded by the special fund, school officials reported, were the filling in of rough areas, and- re-grading to put more playground area to recreation-al use. - Contemplated improv e-ments for the coming year in-clude added play equipment, resurfacing of the football field and refinishing of the baseball diamond. Funds tram the special ac-count handled by the School Hi-Fi Group To Discuss Record Care At Session The H,ershey Club will meet in the Community Building's Room 201 on De-cember 12, when the discus-sion topic will be "Records and Record Care." The sellsion starts at eight p. m. The hi-fi group will meet the second and fourth Thurs-day night of each month thereafter, it was announced, with a discussion period at each meeting. December 12's musical pro-gram will be Franz Van Suppe overtures and unfamiliar re-cordings — "or bring a rec-ord." Beginning January 9, a Course in hi-fi, including tape and stereophonics, will be of-fered. District are used for physical facilities only, the school spokesman said.
