Guinivan President of Hershey Ministerium "THE KEYSTONE OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH" The Historic Fact The Keystone of our Christian Faith is the Resurrection of Jesus, the Christ. The historic fact re-mains. We in the twentieth century must let the startling truth break over us afresh. Old Question Answered Christ arose. He was unquestion-ably alive. He has conquered death as He had said He would. He an-swered the old but ever new ques-tion of Job, "If a man die, shall he live again?' Shocking Event This event roused, shocked, ex-cited, attracted and repelled peo-ple. The disciples and the Hebrew people could not conceive of a Messiah who would suffer and die. Instead a Messiah must conquer and rule. But this was not God's way! God in Christ had visited this planet. The Cross was not the end; God had raised Jesus from the dead. Death, BOW, need no longer be feared; Christ was Lord of life and death. Now God could take human sin (even the terrible sin of those who put Jesus to death) and tri-umph over that. Through death could come resurrection. Out of tragedy could come triumph. Transformed Disciples A dispirited group of disillusion-ed disciples (bewildered and fright-ened at the death of Christ) were permanently transformed into a close-knit fellowship of spiritually resilient heroes by this Resurrec-tion Faith. This was a real demon-stration of transforming Resurrec-tion Power! When Grasped Once we are grasped by this his-toric fact and by this Ressurection Faith, we must radically reorgan-ize our lives, make shift of our di-rection from self-centered to God-centered lives. We will have a new sense of values. We will adopt a wholly new attitude toward death as well as life. "Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!"
