ERS HEY NEWS Vol. 10 ® HERSHEY PENNSYLVANIA, MAY 24, 1962 NO. 11 Walter K. Bailey Walter K. Bailey, Chairman of the Board of the Warner and Swasey Company of Cleveland, Ohio, will be the speaker at the Commence-ment Exercises of the Milton Her-shey School to be held on Monday, June 4, 1962 at 7:30 p.m. in the Her-shey Community Theatre. Mr. Bailey, a graduate of Oberlin College, was just recently elected to the chairmanship of the Warner and Swasey Company. Previously, he served as President of the Com-pany. On the Board of Trustees of Ober-lin College, Mr. Bailey is on the Board of Directors of Addressograph- Multigraph Corp.; Clark Controller Corp.; Cooper-Bessemer Corp.; Os-born Mfg. Company and Sterling Foundry. He is also quite active in civic affairs, Bishop Leech To Dedicate St. Joan Of Arc Church The Most Reverend .George L. Leech, Di)., J.C.D., Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harris-burg, will be celebrant for the solemn blessing and pontifical mass of dedication of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 30th, which is also the Feast of the Patroness of the Parish. The Right Reverend Joseph Schmidt, P. A., will deliver the sermon. ..The Right Reverend Monsignor Anthony J. Mayan, pastor of St. Joan, has announced that a spe-cial mass of St. Joan of Arc will be sung by the mixed choir with Mr. Dominic Pavone as director and Miss Regina Pronio, organist. Former Priests of the Parish will assist the Bishop in the Dedi-catory Service. Some 150 Priests and 200 Sisters will be present at the ceremonies. Park Bandshell To Feature "Dennis The Menace Jay North Jay "Dennis The Menace" North, television's famous young trouble-maker, is the latest nationally-known entertainment figure to be booked for a personal appearance at the Hershey Park Bandshell it has been announced by George W. Bartels, park manager. I I Jay North, scheduled for two appearances (2:45 and 8:30 p.m.) on Sunday, June 3, is a natural born actor. The young star of Screen Gems' new "Dennis The Menace" series, realized a "life-long" am-bition when he was selected to portray the title role in the series based on cartoonist Hank Ketcham's famous comic strip. - Jay's pretty young mother says that casting Jay as Dennis, the little boy who wants to help, and thoroughly succeeds in upsetting everything and everybody with Whom he comes into contact, is completely opposite to the lad's per-sonality. Jay is a good boy who seldom gets into trouble. Also appearing at the bandshell June 3 ,will be Joe Forte and the Originals, popular instrumental and vocal group, who are scheduled for free shows at 2, 5 and 8 p.m. The famed team of "Mr. and Mrs. Guitar", Les Paul and Mary Ford, will be presented in a free concert at. the Park Bandshell on May 27 in afternoon and evening programs. Also booked on the program is Red McCarthy, his orchestra and vocal-ists. OIL' FIRE DEMONSTRATIONS were held recently at the annual test drill held by the IIershey Fire Company at the Swatara Creek Dam. The annual drill is held to test the fire fighting equip-ment and acquaint the men with the methods used in fighting oil fires. Entry Suits, originally designed for the armed forces, were used to protect the fire fighters from the extreme heat of the blaze. Since neighboring companies do not have Entry Suits, Hunimelstown, Palmyra, Union Deposit and Oberlin Fire Companies were invited and were present with their trucks. In addition, men from Steelton and Lawn had a chance to use the suits. In the two hours the fires were ablaze, 22 drums of oil were used each containing 50 to 55 gallons of oil. Fires were extinguished with booster lines from the fire trucks. Memorial Day Observance Speaker for the. annual Memorial Day observance at the Derry Town-ship Court of Honor will be The Reverend Ira 0. Reed, Pastor of the Derry Presbyterian Church and World War II veteran. Scheduled for the Court of Honor at 9:30 a.m., EDT, the observance will be preceded by a four-division parade on Chocolate Avenue. Parade time according to coordinator Brent I. Hancock, is 8:30 a.ni., with units on the line in the School Plaza area at 8:15 a.m. Parade marshal is Brigadier Gen-eral Herbert A. Vernet, Jr., Assist-ant Division Commander, 28th In-fantry Division, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, and Director of Labor Relations for the Hershey Chocolate Corporation. He will also participate in brief ceremonies at the Derry Township War Memorial at the intersection of West Chocolate Avenue and U.S. Route 422 West. - A detail from Hershey's 3rd A. Bn, 213th Artillery, commanded by U. Col. Paul C. Beadier, will form the firing squad at both the War Memorial and the Court of Honor. Forming on School Plaza the parade will move on Ceylon Avenue to Chocolate Avenue; west on Choco-late Avenue to West Caracas Avenue. East on West Caracas Avenue to Valley Road. North on Valley Road to West Chocolate Avenue. East on Chocolate Avenue to Ceylon Avenue. Incorporated in the Court of Common Pleas of Dauphin County, the new organization plans to sponsor, maintain and manage the camp site to be known as the "Catherine S. Hershey Camp." It will be for the exclusive use of sponsored, permanently organized groups of girls who reside in Derry Township. Pictured from left to right are Theodore R. Hershey High School Commence ment Exercises to be held on May 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hershey Community Theatre. Prior to assuming his present duties. Dr. Still was a Professor and .Head of the English Depart-ment at Clarion State College. lie was also Chairman of the Division of Humanities at the college. Following his education in the public schools of Morgan and the village of Cumberland, Ohio, Dr. Still earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degrees at the Ohio State University. He received his Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh. President Of Westminster Choir College To Speak Speaker at the _Commencement Exercises of the Hershey Junior College, will be Lee - Hastings Bristol, Jr., president of West-minster Choir College, Princetor,- New Jersey. The exercises will be held in the Little Theatre of the Community Building on Monday, May 28 at 8:00 p.m. Recently elected to the position of president of Westminster Choir College, Dr. Bristol was Director of 'Public Relations of Bristol- Myers Products Division, New York; N. Y. He is quite active in civic activities and is both an author and composer. His most recent book is "Developing the Corporate Image" and his most recent anthem is "The King's Highway." Dr. Bristol has received honorary doctorate degrees from Los • An-geles Conservatory of Music and Arts, LOs Angeles, Calif. (HI-I.D.); Webber 'College, Babson Park, Florida (Litt.D.); Dickinson Col-lege (hlus. Doc.); Findlay College, Findlay, Ohio (LL.D.); and Mis-souri Valley College, Marshall Mo. (LL.D.).
