HERSHEY NEWS Vol. 6 HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA, NOVEMBER 6, 1958 No. 45 TWO RETIRED EMPLOYEES of the Hershey Chocolate Corporation were saluted by their fellow workers recently at a retirement dinner in their honor. The guests of honor were Mrs. Antonia DeSimone (at left) and Attilio Nucci (above, right), both of whom retired recently from the Almond and Peanut Picking Department after many years of service. Fifty-seven persons attended the banquet, held by the de-partment employees. Mrs. DeSimone, a resident of East Derry Road, was a Hershey Chocolate Corp-oration employee for more than 38 years. Her late husband, Antonio, was also a former Hershey employee. She retired at the end of September. Mr. Nucci, who lives at 65 West Areba Avenue, retired October 31 after 45 years of employment at the Chocolate Corporation. Mr. and Mrs. Nucci are the parents-of twa daughters-44:1448i., wife-of Joseph E. Kunetz of-Fairlawn, N.J., and Frances, who resides at home. At the dinner in their honor, gifts from their fellow employees were presented by Harry Horst. Master of ceremonies for the affair was Homer Keller. Entertainment included musical and dance numbers, and several skits. A vocal group of departmental employees was comprised of Ida Mae McCurdy, Dale Seiple, Kathryn Bradley, Marie Light and Loretta Miller. Ernest Accorsi Jr. was accordion soloist, and dances were presented by, Elizabeth Kuhn, Sandra Williams and Paula Kuhn.t Miss Effie Achey was pianist for group singing. Unified Welfare Campaign In Final Phase Fourteen groups of citizen-volunteers this week were can-v, assing community homes in the final phase of the 1958 Derry Township - Welfare Board-Tr -County Unit ed Fund campaign. The home canvassers were contacting persons not reach-ed previously, in the indus-trial- business- fund drives here. W. Royce Ward, chairman of the communitywide solici-tation, announced the roster of volunteer workers as fol-lows: Team 1 — Allen M. Here Officially; Saluted By Halloween Fete The Fall season was ush-ered in here officially and fes-tively last Thursday night when the community held its annual Halloween parade in grand style. The highly successful cele-bration was sponsored by the Derr y Township Parent- Teacher Association, with the full cooperation of the weath-erman who offered an ideal Autumn evening for the oc-casion. Fancy and imaginative cos-tumes of the paraders, ele-gant and ingenious floats and a pervading spirit of festivity all went into a fun-filled Hal-loween parade, paced by the music of local musical organi-zations. Co-Chairmen Carl Stump and Carl Curry, who headed the PTA committees for the event, extended their appre-ciation for the excellent spirit of participation shown by the public in making the parade and celebration a success. They also had words of commendation for the PTA committee men and women who planned and executed the 1958 community enterprise and to the businesses and in-dustries who furnished the parade prizes. Prize winners were an-nounced as follows: Most original — Mary Ann and Freddie Weaver, first; Hannah Winiger and Carol Richards, second; Larry Cart-wright and Sonny Smith, third; and Jimmy Landis, fourth.
