HERSHEY NEWS HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA, JANUARY 5, 1961 GRAND PRIZE winner in the annual Home Christmas Decoration Contest, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Hershey, were Mr. and Mrs. Ray W. D. Hiestand, 408 Elm Avenue. Beautiful pink trees occupied the windows with crystal lights causing an unusually beautiful effect. Especially attractive was the spotlighted doorway, a white spot set-ting off the home. Supervising the installation was Mrs. Hiestand who would have preferred a colored spotlight; but settled for the plain spot when the desired type was unavailable. New Officers For Hershey Hospital's Medical Staff Newly elected President of the Hershey Hospital Medical Staff is Raymond R. Curanzy, M.D., of Palmyra, who has been Secretary of the Medical Staff for the past four years. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland. Active in the Iferphey ,llospital Medical Staff for many years, Wayne D. Stettler, M.D., of Her-shey, a graduate of Boston Uni-versity Medical School, is Vice- President elect Secretary-Treasurer for 1961 is Harold H. Engle, M.D., of Pal-myra. Dr. Engle, a Temple Uni-versity graduate, has been active in Palmyra and Lebanon County Medical circles for the past 15 years. Chairman of the General Prac-tice Section is James M. Keiter, M.D., of Campbelltown. He is a graduate of the Uni-versity of Pennsylvania Medical School and is Past President of the Hershey Hospital Medical Staff. A Record 231,206 Persons Toured The Plant In 1960 New records at the Hershey Chocolate Corporation's Visitors Department were established again last year as 231,206 persons toured the plant. This was an increase of 25,224 over 1959; when a record 205,982 persons visited the plant. As usual, the month of August again taw a record set: 81,434 vis-itors, against a record 61,101 in August, 1959. In review: January, 1,902; Feb-ruary, 1,465; March, 1,334. With the arrival of Spring and the thousands of school children who visit Hershey, the figures in-creased: April, 10,226; May, 19,- 776. June is Rose Time in Hershey, and 36,370 persons visited the plant. Although the annual two-weeks employees vacation closes the plant to visitors, the Visitors De-partment remained open and 46,- 370 visited the department in July September, 16,001; October, 11,- 640; November, 3,546; and Decem-ber, 1,142. Hostess Verna Stoltz and guides Prudence Meily, Shirley Conrad, Winners Awarded For Decoration Of Homes This year's Rotary Home Christmas Decoration Con-test Grand Prize was award-ed to Mr. and Mrs. Ray W. D. Heistand, 408 Elm Avenue. Last year they were awarded first prize for the hest window or doorway display. This year the awards in this cate-gory went to Dr. Edward C. Elli-son, 238 Elm Avenue; Nick C. Di- Domenico, Glenn Acres; Major Hild-ing C. Johnson, 434 W. Caracas Ave. Honorable mention was given Al-ger L. Gilmore, 545 E. Derry Road; Dr. Thomas Forker, 247 Cedar Ave.; and Samuel J. DeAngelis, 717 Linden Road. Best lighting display winners were Theodore Mandes, 240 Beech Ave.; Ammon E. Patrick, R. D. #1, Hummelstown; M. Luther Haldeman, 140 Elm Avenue. Honorable mention: Robert K. Schelhorn, 420 Elm Ave.; Richard J. DeAngelis, 326 W. Areba Ave.; Le- Roy Shertzer, 1123 W. Cherry St.; J. J. Van Scyoc, 1201 W. Cherry St.; Harold Sitter, 415 W. Governor Road; Frank Swartz, Glenn Acres; Lewis Loffreda, 107 Oak Lane. John D. Groh, 218 Elm Ave., last year's Grand Prize Winner, took honors in the Most Original cate-gory; as did Joseph J. Piconi, 443 Maple Ave.; and G. R. Sponaugle, 115 Para Ave. Honorable Mention: Lester W. Abel, 143 Oak Lane; Harold L. Kern, 934 E. Chocolate Ave.; William Y. Abbot Jr., Glenn Acres. Winners for the Most Artistic dis-plays were Virginia Strawderman, 320 Governor Road (also the win-ner last ear) • Raymond F. Evans, 118 rt *and Ronald D. Good; man, 445 Chestnut Ave. Judges Roy L. Bomgardner. Clyde P. Stacks and Daniel L. Backenstose. awarded a special honorable mention to Benny Clemente, 333 W. Caracas Ave., for his awe inspiring Christmas display. Milton Hershey School winners were the Vocational General Shop's display at the High School; Farm Homes Gro Mor and Over View. Honorable mention: Rosemont. Ha-bana, and Long Lane. Grand Prize was $50. Prizes of $20. $10, and $5 were awarded In each of the categories. Coordinating the contest was Commit-tee Chairman Edwin K, Zechman. along with George H. Booth. Donald B. Chubb, and George W. Miller. Jean Yingling, Marion Smith and Martha Feidt make up the regular Visitors Department complement. Haldeman & Son, Hershey. Hershey Ambulance Corps duct a night class, February. Plans For First Aid Class Persons who are available for daylight ambulance duty are in-vited to attend the First Aid Class, under the sponsorship ,of the Her-shey Ambulance Corps, beginning January 11 at 9:00 a.m. Harrison Shiffer will be the in-structor, with meetings in the Hershey Fire Hall. Plans are also under way to con-beginning in SLEDDING AREAS Derry Township Supervisors are reserving and barricading as play streets for sledding by children during suitable weather conditions the following: Ridge Avenue between Bins Ave nue and Cocoa Avenue Glenn Road between West Arebz Street and West Caracas Avenue.
