IMPRESSIVE WOODEN CROSS which is the back-ground to the altar at Hershey's Church of the Re-deemer (United Church of Christ) is one of the inter-esting features of the newly remodeled and redecor-ated sanctuary. Inspecting the huge cross are five of the leaders of the congregation — From left: Clayton Reinert,-Melvin Shaffer, Floyd Kuntz, the Rev. Glenn Rader and Raymond Shreffler. The, mission church of •the United Church of 'Christ (Evangelical and Reformed) was dedicated at services held on Sunday, October 19. The former Union Deposit Evangelical and Reformd congregation has been incorporated in the new group, forming the nuc-leus for the Hershey church. Formal installation services for the pastor, Rev. Rader, will take place at the church on Sunday, Novem-ber 16, at 7:30 p. m. Dutch Days Group Elects Swarr For Fourth Term Carl S. Swarr was reelected general chairman of the Pennsylvania Dutch Days Committee at a recent reor-ganizational meeting of the group. Swarr will be serving as general chairman for the fourth year. The reorganization session was held in connection with a dinner honoring the Dutch Days Committee at Hotel Hershey on October 20. Her-shey Estates President John B. Sollenberger was host. Elected as vice-chairmen of the committee were Walter B. Kettering, Raymond F. Evans and Rufus K. Hollinger. W. Royce Ward was elected secretary-treasurer. Following the meeting, it was announced that the dates for the eleventh annual Dutch Days in 1959 will be August 27-28-29-30. No. 44 Thanksgiving Theme For Retirees' Get-Together Fund- Campaign Workers To Make Communitywide Drive The communitywide door-to- door phase of the 1958 united welfare campaign is being prepared here, with plans being completed to start the canvass in early Novem-ber, it was announced by W. Royce Ward, Derry Township community canvass chairman. The business- industrial drive of the united effort has been completed and results are being compiled. - The community canvass campaign is designed to con-tact Derry Township resi-dents who have not already given to the 1958 Derry Township -Welfare Board- United Fund drive. Commun-ity canvassers will not solicit homes which display the United Fund stickers. Community Canvass Chair-man Ward this week an-nounced the names of the team captains for this phase of the fund campaign. The captains are contacting civic-minded citizens to recruit help in conducting • the canvass. The team captains: Allen M. Huber, Team 1; Howard Souder, Team 2; John T. Shuey, Team 3; Mrs. Pal-mina Gargenes, Team 4; Miss Vienna Tulli, Team 5; Joseph Long, Team 6; Edward Tan-credi, Team 7; Landis C. Gar- "No speaker — just a real get-together at an old fashion-ed Thanksgiving party." That's the description of the November meeting of the Hershey Retired Employees' which will be held Monday, November 3; at two p. m. at the fire hall. The main feature of the get-together will be a full course Thanksgiving turkey dinner served by the ladies of ;he organization, and all re-tired employees "from 65 to 100" are urged to attend.. Heading the Special Funds Division are William E. C. Dearden, Harold E. Ingram, Melvin C. Garner, Ralph L. Hoar and Edmund H. Madciff. Student Council Conclave A hundred student leaders from Pennsylvania junior col-leges will meet in Hershey next Friday and Satur5ay -- November 7 and 8 — at the annual Pennsylvania Junior College Student Council Con-ference. Hershey Junior College will be host for the two-day meet-ing. Guest speakers during the! Saturday sessions will be Miss Genevieve Blatt, secretary of internal affairs of the Com-monwealth of Pennsylvania, and Dr. A. G. Breidenstine, dean of Millersville State Teachers College. Dr. Breiden-stine is a former Hershey Junior College dean. The Student Council Con-ference delegates will be wel-comed by Kenneth Heaps, president of the Hershey Jun-ior College Student Senate; Dr. Varnum H. Fenstermach-er, Hershey Junior College dean; and Dr. L. Eugene Jac-ques, superintendent of the Derry Township School Dis-trict.
