HERSHEY NEWS Vol. 10 0 HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA, JANUARY 18, 1962 NO. 2 MODERATOR for a "Brainstorming Session" of the Rotary CIO, of Hershey, William M. Kishpaugh (right), one of two American members of a ten-member consultative group on Inter-national Relations for Rotary International, departed Hershey the day following the meeting on his second world tour within a year. First stop was Roden, Sweden, on the Artic Circle. As usual, it is a combination of private business and Rotary work for genial Bill. Club Service Director for the Hershey Rotary Club is Charles M. Wolgemuth. Object Of Cocoa Teens Is To Provide Cultural And Educational Activities Supplementing The Other Organizations To provide the youth of the community with programs and activities primarily with a cultural and educational slant supplementing and in addition to that provided by 'other organizations in the community is the objective of the Cocoa Teens. One prime objective is that the particular function involved be something in which the youth are in-terested. An interested group of adults re- • presenting various segments of the community — schools, churches, youth organizations — was formed as a steering committee and sound-ing board. Student leaders in the high schools and Junior College formed a work-ing committee representing the in-terests of the youth of the commun-ity. This committee is composed of fourteen members and has been kept relatively fluid in that no of-ficers have been elected. Adult leaders include Harold Brandt, Mrs. Robert Bucher, Mrs. John Constable, William Dearden, Mrs. John H. Detweiler, Jr., Mrs. Leonard Ferucci, Mrs. Christine Gal-lus, John Gronsnick, Mrs. Douglass Henry, Dr. John 0. Hershey, Sam-uel F. Hinkle, Mrs. L. Eugene Jac-ques, Mrs. Thomas L. Leaman, Mrs. Joseph Mastrosati, Robert Miller, Dr. Frank Pierce, Mrs. Harry Reese, Robert Rees e, Samuel Tancredi, Mrs. Edwin F. Weaver, Richard Zimmerman. Three New Members To The Boards Of The Hershey Trust Company And The Hershey National Bank Are Elected Three new members were elected to the Boards of Directors of The Hershey Trust Company and The Hershey National Bank at the annual meetings. Elected to the Board of Directors. of lThè Hershey Trust Company were William E. Schiller, Vice President and. Treasurer of The Hershey Chocolate Corporation; Harold S. Mohler, Assistant to the President of The Hershey Chocolate Corporation; ,and Ken-neth V. Hatt, Comptroller of The Hershey Estates. Elected to the Board of Directors of The Hershey National Bank were Robert M. Bucher, Superintendent of Production at the Hershey Chocolate Corporation; Dr. John 0. Hershey, Sup-erintendent of the Milton Hershey School; and Elwood W. Meyers, Chief Chemist at the Hershey Chocolate Corporation. Incumbent members of the Board of Directors of The Hershey Trust Company are T. R. Banks, J. E. Bobb, J. S. Gumpher, Samuel F. Hinkle, J. B. Sollenberger, and A. R. Whiteman. Born in Nova Scotia, February 15, 1909, Mr. Schiller is a graduate of the Coraopolis High School, Cor-aopolis, Pa., the University of Michigan A.B., 1932, MBA, 1933. He is a Certified Public Account-ant in the State of New York. Mr. Schiller was associated with Arthur Andersen & Co., in Chicago and New York from 1933 until MEETING In the Community Building on a cold, wintry day, student and adult leaders of the Cocoa Teens outline plans for future programs. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1948; and was named Treas-urer and a member of the Board of Directors of Hershey Chocolate of Canada, Lt., in 1961. Mr. Mohler was born in Ephrata, Pa., March 8, 1919, the son of Mil-ton K. and Esther (Sheaffer) Moh-ler. He is a graduate of Ephrata High School, 1937. He received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering, Le-high University, 1948, and became a Registered Engineer, Common-wealth of Pennsylvania, 1952. He served as Industrial Engin-eer at Hershey Chocolate Corpora-tion from 1948 until 1957 when he was appointed Assistant to the President. He became a member of the Board of Directors at Her-shey Chocolate Corporation in 1960. In 1961 he was elected Vice Presi-dent, Hershey Chocolate of Can-ada, Ltd., and also a member of the Board of Directors. Born in Mohnton, Pa., December 20, 1923, Mr. Hatt is a 1941 grad-uate of Milton Hershey School; has continuous employment with the Hershey Estates, excepting for three years (two years overseas) U.S. Army duty. Following World War II, he be-came affiliated with the Hershey Estates utilities and became As-sistant Comptroller in 1958 and Comptroller in 1961. Mr. Bucher has been affiliated with the Hershey Chocolate Cor-poration since 1932 when he joined the firm as a chemist. In 1947 he was named Superintendent of Pro-duction for the packaging and ship-ping divisions; and in 1960 was promoted to Superintendent of Pro-duction for all departments. Dr. Hershey has been with the Milton Hershey School for the past twenty-three years as a house father, teacher, administrator and Superintendent since November 1, 1951, A chemist with the Hershey S. F. HINKLE The Board of Directors of Her-shey Chocolate Corporation at its meeting on January 10 elected Mr. Samuel F. Hinkle as Chairman of the Board to succeed Mr. John J. Gallagher who retired on Decem-ber 31. Mr. Gallagher was with the Cor-poration for fifty years. He started his career as a member of the sales force, was appointed Assist-ant Sales Manager in 1920, General Sales Manager in 1944, and elected Chairman of the Board of Direct-ors in 1956. He was a Director of the Hershey Chocolate Corporation since 1947 and until recently a di-rector of the Hershey Trust Com-pany, as well as a member a the Board of Managers of the Milton Hershey School. Mr. Hinkle, who was elected president and chief executive of-ficer of the Hershey Chocolate Corporation in 1956, will continue in that position, in addition to as-suming the chairmanship of the Board of Directors. Mr. Hinkle joined the company in 1924 as chief chemist and director of research. In 1947 he was named plant man-ager, and held that position until his election as president. Ile is al-so a Director of the Hershey Trust Company and a member of the Board of Managers of the Milton Hershey School. PAPER AND SCRAP Hershey Volunteer Fire Com-pany will conduct a paper and scrap drive on Monday, January 22. Rain date is Monday, January 29. This is the annual drive for the benefit of the Exchange Club of the M. S. Hershey Jr.-Sr. High School. Exchange students of North Hills High School visited Hershey Jan. 14 to 21.
