HERSHEY "NEWS Vol. 8 HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA, MAY 12, 1960 NO. 10 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * NEW 50-STAR FLAGS were presented by Hershey Post No. 386, The American Legion, to 18 Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts organizations of Hershey. Displaying the new flag are Milton Hershey School Troop 75 Eagle Scout John Hand (left); Emanuel L. "Spivey" Groff, Past Commander, Post 386, and Chairman of the Americanism Com-mittee; and Delbert Wood, Troop 67, Derry Township School District. Corporation's Parking Lot In Temporary Use; Plan New Road And Light Hershey Chocolate Corporation's new East end 350-car parking lot was placed into temporary service on Friday, April 29th: with Hemp Brothers, of Camp Hill, who held the general contract, completing the project right on schedule. When the contract was awarded last fall;--announeement in the Hershey NEWS at that time indi-cated a completion target date of May 1st. "An excellent job" is the com-ment of engineers (both profes-sional and of the sidewalk variety) concerning the fine parking facil-ity. Temporary lines have been placed on the surface along with temporary lighting facilities. Placing of the final blacktop sur-face has been scheduled along with the second phase of the proposed Homestead Road -Chocolate Avenue intersection; and the installation of a traffic light at the new inter-section. . This means that Homestead Road will be relocated so as to intersect with the. new parking lot entrance. This relocation of Homestead Road and the 'closing of nearby Java Avenue will be handled by Hempt „ Kindergarten And Pre- School Clinic Schedule Registration for kindergarten and new entrants for first grade for the school year 1960-61 will be held in the elementary principal's office from May 16 to 20. The hours for registration will be 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Registration policy: A child must be 5 years old before Feb. 1, 1961 to be eligible for kindergarten. lie must be 6 years old before Feb. 1, 1961 to be eligible for first grade. Birth and vaccination certificates must be presented to the principal before a child may be registered. A Pre-School Clime Day for parents of next year's kindergarten children will be held on Wed., 18. If your child's last name begins with ABC report at 9:00 a.m. DEFGH, 10:00 a.m. 1JKLMN, 11:00 a.m. OPQRS, 1:00 p.m. TUVWXYZ, 2:00 p.m. Bros., also, with work now under way. Target date for this phase of the project is July. Then the new Homestead Road, which passes through a portion of the present parking facility of the Corporation on the south side of Chocolate Ave-nue, will be blacktopped. Hershey Insurance And Pension Plans Have Been Revised Negotiations on the Insur-ance and Pension Plans be-tween Hershey Chocolate Cor-poration and the local union have been successfully con-cluded. The parties h a v e' signed an agreement effective through December 31, 1964, which provides for the follow-ing new benefits in addition to those currently in effect: Effective July 1, 1960, a new Medical Expense Insurance Plan will be started. It is designed to help pay the cost of physician's care for medical treatments re-ceived by an employee whether the treatments are given in the doc-tor's office, in the hospital, or else-where. Dependents will receive re-imbursement for physician's care in the hospital only. The plans will provide stipulated payments for each treatment commencing with the third treatment received for any one illness up to a maximum of $250. The Accident and Health weekly benefits have been increased by approximately 10%, effective July 1, 1960. The definition of dependents has been broadened to include depend-ents of a female employee who is the head of the household and sole support of legitimate children and a totally and permanently disabled husband. Additionally, a totally and permanently disabled child over 18 years who resides in the covered employees home and is solely sup-ported by the employee will be eligible for regular dep:mdent bene-fits. Determination of insurance and annuity class has been altered primarily to take into account the added wages paid to employees who are employed on an incentive basis. Changes in the insurance plan are also applicable to Hershey Estates employees. The Group Annuity Plan for Her-shey Chocolate Corporation em-ployees has been revised with re-spect to past service credit to the Dr. L. Eugene Jacques SPEAKER at the Derry Town-ship Court of honor Memorial Day Observance will be Dr. L. Eugene Jacques, Superintendent of the Derry Township School District.
