In its Gist season, the fam-ed Philadelphia Orchestra, with Eugene Ormandy cele-brating his 25th Anniversary Season as Music Director, will appear in the Hershey. Com-munity Theatre on Tuesday, October 4, at 8:30 p.m. Included in the program will be Brahrns'. "Festival Overture," Beethoyen's Symphony No. 7 in A major, Strauss' Overture to Die Fledermaus, Tritsch-Trasth Polka, New Pizzicato Polka, Explosions Polka and the very popular "Tales From Vienna Woods." ' From its first concert on No-vember 16, 1900, the Philadelphia Orchestra has been one of ,the world's leading artistic institutions. Newsweek has described it as "the world's greatest orchestra," an opinion echoed throughout the world. . And the orchestra has -friends everywhere who share the critics' enthusiasm. On Sundays only, the Park will operate the Turnpike Ride, the new miniature golf course, located on the surface of the outdoor skating rink; the roller coaster; and eight rides for the small fry in Kiddie-land. Opening time will be 1:00 p.m. No date has been set for perman-ent closing of the rides. They will be available as long as there is a demand. Hershey Optimist Club To Present Red McCarthy And His Band For "Live" Dance A "live" dance, featuring Red McCarthy and his , Orchestra, Will be presented by, the Hershey Op-timist Club at the Hershey Park Starlight Ballroom on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 8 to 11 p.m. Admission will be by Teen Can-teen membership card. Seavers coordinating. No. 19 Rudie Sinfonietta Is Featured Musical Portion Of 11th Annual M. S. Hershey. Day; Joseph A. Abey Gives Spoken Word Joseph . A. Abey, President-elect of Rotary, Reading, will present the spoken word of tribute at the eleventh an-' nual community-wide observance of M. S. Hershey Day in the Community Theatre on Sunday, September 18, at 2 p.m. Mr. Abey has been president and publisher of three newspapers and is circulation director of the Read-ing Eagle-Times. On July 1, 1961, he will take of-fice as chief executive of the world-wide service club organization, which is comprised of more than 10,500 Rotary clubs with a mem-bership of nearly 500,000 in 116 countries on six -continents. Coordinating the observance for the Hershey Rotary Club are J. B. JOSEPH A. ABEY Sollenherger, A. R. Whiteman, T. R. Banks, and D. Paul Witmer. I Introducing 'Mr. Abey will be I William BiL Kishpaugh, Past Dis-trict Governor, Rotary Interna-tional. Invocation will be offered by The Reverend Thomas W. Guinivan, Chaplain, the Hershey Rotary Club. John 'J. Lucas, President, will present a Rotary welcome. The Rudie Sinfonietta, under the direction of Robert Rudie, (pro-nounced Roo-dee-ay), will present a special musical program, open-ing with a Paganini Portrait. Compositions by Paganini to be featured are Concerto No. 1 in D, Adagio and Allegro; Sonata for vio-lin and guitar; Phantasy on the G String (on Rossini's "Moses.") Narrator and violin soloist will be Robert Rudie. The guitarist is Leonid Bolotine, with special ar-rangements by Martina Rudie. 1 Ravel's Introduction and allegro will be presented by Cynthia Otis, harpist. An Offenbach interlude will in-clude. Orpheus, Barcarolle and La Vie Parisiennne. Concluding, the observance will be Strauss's The Beautiful Blue Danube. For eleven years Robert Rudie was the concertmaster and assist-ant conductor of the Oklahoma City Symphony Chorale, which gave many performances of major works with the Symphony and whose recording of Deb'ussy's "Martyrdom of.St. Sebastian" vron the praise of critics throughout the country. He is married to the former Met.- tina Johnson, whom he met when they were pupils together at the Julliard School. Mrs. Rudie is an accomplished pianist and composer, and is a member of the Sinfonietta. Mr. Abey has been a member of the Rotary Club of Reading since 1936 and is a past president of that club. Abey has served Rotary Interna-tional as director, district gayer- !nor, and as committee chairman 'and member.
