HERSHEY NEWS - Vol. 5 • State Commander Of VFW Is Guest Of local Post William J. Tepsic of Brent-wood, state commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was the guest of Hershey Memorial Post 3502 and its Ladies' Auxiliary at a dinner at the post home on West Ca-racas Avenue last Saturday evening. A large number of mem-bers of the post and auxiliary joined in honoring the state VFW chief and enjoyed the varied menu of the dinner, smorgasbord style. -Accompanying the state commander on his inspection, of the local units were State' Adjutant Robert S. Musser, Past District Commander J. W. Wilson, and bistrict Sen-ior Vice - Commander Wayne Snavely. Tepsic addressed the Her-shey members, stressing the need for emphasis on the great community services per-formed by the men and wo-men of the organization. He called for teamwork in con-tinuing the building of the VFW. During his visit, Tepsic presented Hershey Post Com-mander Clarence E. Jefferies with his autographed picture and asked Jefferies to appoint as an aide to the state com-mander an outstanding repre-sentative of the post as "Mr. Americanism." MRS. Alumni Group To List Slate Of Nominees A slate of nominees for office will be presented at the October 2 meet-ing of the Milton Hershey School Alumni Association's Homestead Chapter. The session will be held at Farm Unit Meadow Brook. The elections will be held by mail ballot prior to the annual M.H.S. Alumni Homecoming in No-vember. • The alumni association is already working on plans for commemorat ing the fiftieth year of the Milton Hershey School at the 1959 Home-coming. Class Elects Officers Raymond W. Hersh was elected president of the Sophomore Class of Hershey Junior College at an election meeting held last week. Other class officers are James H. Mease, vice-president, and Wini-fred F. Adams, secretary-treasur-er. The class sponsor is Dr. Rudolf Sturm. Hinkle (second from right) was among a group of U.S. chocolate industry officials who met recently with Vice President Richard M. Nixon in Washington, D. C., on the eve of an important international confer-ence on cocoa at Itradan, Nigeria. Another Hershey Chocolate Corporation official, Corporation Vice Presi-dent L. W. Majer, is taking an active part in the Niger-ian meeting which was due to end today (Thursday). Mr. Nixon, who had visited West Africa last Spring, drank a cup of cocoa with the visiting industry repre-sentatives and discussed his experiences in the cocoa-growing nations. The Vice President was the United States' official representative at the celebration of the No. 39 independence of Nigeria's neighboring country of Ghana. Ghana is the world's largest producer of cocoa and the United States is the largest consumer. Day, chair-man of the Board.,of the Nestle Company and president of the Association of Cocoa and Chocolate Manufac-turers. tower Rate For Electric — More than three thousand of the Hershey Electric Company's customers will be getting the benefit of reduced rates on their electric bills which will be rendered under date of September 30. The following table shows the saving effected by the new tariff: Old Rate that will be New Rate First 30 kwh - $1.95 $1.65 Next 30 kwh 1.50 1.50 :Next 40 kwh 1.40 1.20 Next 100 kwh 2.50 2.00 Totals for 200 kwh $7.35 $6.35 From the above it will be noted that the saving on the first 200 kwh will be $1.00. In this period of inflation the Hershey Electric Com-pany is pleased to be able to extend these lower rates to its customers. Horticulture Society Has Election Mrs. Ralph Horst was elect- ticulturist-emeritus, and Ir-ed president of the recently organized Hershey Horticul-ture Society as the group met to choose its officers and com-mittee people for the coming year. Named to serve as advisors to the society were Harry L.
