Subject | Correspondence; World War, 1939-1945.; World War, 1939-1945--Women. |
Description | 349 July 28 - Saturday - 9:15 P.M. My Dearly Beloved: Well, what d'ya know - more fog today! Heavy enough so that you feel damp all over when you go out for a walk- This morning Bev phoned, and asked me to bring Wendy down. I did, and then went on to do my marketing, and stop in at the library. Incidently, I was amused to find that I was getting a reputation as heavy reader among the library staff - no wonder - I'm apt to take out any number of books on widely diversified subjects - maybe old trunks and psychology or baby care and poetry. No matter - it keeps me out of mischief - [pg 2] And sweety I bought a new dress - well juniper - soft lemon yellow botany wool, trimmed with green and white braid. It was in the window of one of the dress shops, and I saw it out of the corner of my eye as I was passing by. Before I had time to consider, I was inside buying it. It wasn't an expensive purchase, but a very satisfactory one, and the yellow looks scrumptious against my tan. That makes four dresses I have that you haven't seen yet. Felt very chagrined this morning when I received a letter from Muz and realized that I’d clean forgotten about Grandfather's birthday. I did think [pg 3] of it several weeks ago, and was going to write and ask you the exact date, but it must have slipped my mind. I wrote him a letter tonight - Muz's birthday is August 17th isn't it? Unless you have another idea, I plan to get her a pretty slip at the Silver Thimble from the three of us. About an hour after Wendy went to sleep tonight, she woke up crying as if she’d had a bad dream. I went in picked her up, brought her in here to your picture, and she broke out in a smile, patting your face. A minute later, I had her tucked in bed, and she was sound asleep with her thumb in her mouth. [pg 4] No mail from you today, but I had a letter from Pace. No, you've never met her, but she's one of my few college friends with whom I correspond about 2 or 3 times a year. She writes that Todd's husband Ralph is in the Philippines. You will remember Todd, as the tall girl who had supper with us in our apartment in New York. They have a son Daniel who is almost two years old. Wendy and I stayed indoors this afternoon. I sewed, and gave Wendy the scraps to play with. After a while she became interested in the piano, and tried to reach the keyboard by standing tip toe. Finally I sat down, lifted [pg 5] her on to my lap and showed her how to sound a note. She was delighted, and banged away with her little brown fists, because her fingers are too tiny to push the key down. Darling, you've just got to get home and see her soon- Guess what - this afternoon I turned the radio on, and got the Opera House at Central City, Colorado. I told Wendy how we took her there, one Sunday before she was born, but she didn't seem at all impressed. To bed now Tinker - its cold tonight - I’d give anything to shiver against you - Because I love you terribly much- Bobby |
