Title | Letter from Warren Johnston to Bobby [Letter 93] |
Subject | Censorship.; Correspondence; World War, 1939-1945.; World War, 1939-1945--Women. |
Description | #45 Sunday 12 Nov. noon Dearly Beloved Another letter from you today (written Nov. 3 and with the nostalgic little story enclosed - I liked it; it must have made you feel sad and a little stronger) - that leaves me about fourteen to answer! So many little things in them I'm eager to answer - it won't be for a day or two, darling, so try to be patient. [mistaken order] We are now allowed to say (just why we weren't before, I can't understand, since it was permitted when the men first came here) that we are on [CENSORED] If you've read any big headlines in San Francisco papers about Jap bombings or air raids in this area, do not believe them: they are from Jap sources. Actually there have been [CENSORED] air raid alerts since I arrived, [CENSORED] plans shot down and no real damage of any sort done [CENSORED] should say there was small danger for us from that sort of thing (or anything else) Your letters are so good, darling- you mustn't disparage yourself. A natural consequence of being deprived of direct giving and receiving of affection is the tendency to lose self-confidence a little, and to find your emotions paling. You must try hard to keep them as free and natural as possible, under the circumstances. It isn't so easy to do - but I'll write more about that later. Just had turkey hash for dinner, and the first ice cream since we've been here. You were right about Charley and Helen. I love you, darling Warren |
