Title | Letter from Warren Johnston to Bobby [Letter 70] |
Subject | Correspondence; World War, 1939-1945.; World War, 1939-1945--Women. |
Description | Sunday 15 Oct. 11:45 am (upon concluding #XXI) XXII Darling, It's pleasant to have lots to time to write in. I don't do what Henry and you do, saving the letter for last in the evening - I like to write mine first and what little time or patience I have left can go for occasional others (I enjoy writing now, but do get sort of itchy after sitting down to it for much more than an hour). Just now I'm holding down a telephone until the rest of the office get back from lunch, when I'll go out myself. Don't feel guilty about eating better, even a little bit! I think it's swell, and an awfully good sign. There is one big privation we both have, each other. Apart from that you must get as much pleasure out of life as you can. It doesn't make me feel jealous, darling, but just good all over when you write me about whatever comforts or good company you can achieve. Just as long as you share them with me a little bit by telling me about them I'll be satisfied. You mustn't ever begrudge yourself any pleasures out of a false sense of loyalty. You are the one who best knows when it's false and when it isn't. Don't, for instance, refuse an invitation just to get a letter of to me if the two should conflict, unless you would really rather write letters. I don't mind an occasional break. I'm saving rereading all your letters to date for the first day or period of a few days when I don't get any, and I look forward to rereading them. (Unlike the case of letters just received I like to save rereading for a quiet time when I can get away from things and visualize you and your surroundings and Wendy uninterruptedly.) I think I'll mail this now so that you'll have the fun of getting 2 letters in one day (if they do arrive together) and prepare to go out to lunch. I'm hungry (in more ways than one, too) All my love, precious - Warren P.S. - from now on until further notice every other letter to me, Navy #3247 FPO, San Francisco Will you be checking with the bookstore for arrival of the Pocket Oxford Dictionary? Honolulu [book?] too are sold out. |
