Title | Letter from Bobby Johnston to Warren [Letter 177] |
Subject | Correspondence; World War, 1939-1945.; World War, 1939-1945--Women. |
Description | 119 Jan. 5 - Friday 9:00 P.M. My dearest one: Doug is in San Francisco! He called about an hour ago, and is going to get down here as soon as he can. He has to report back at 11:00 A.M. Sunday. I was so excited that I wasn't at all coherent - and couldn't think of anything to say. What would I ever do, if you called? Since I've been cleaning furiously - a job I had anticipated doing leisurely tomorrow. It will be so good to see him - next best to seeing you. In the middle of all the excitement Wendy woke up, and has been awake ever since making noises - She'll probably be a little sleepy head tomorrow just when I want most to show her off. All the men over at Ord are in a dither - they've been divided into A, B, C, and D groups and the first three are pushing off right away - Walter is in the last group and expects to be here 4-6 weeks. Scuttlebut is rampant - and as usual no two stories alike. Wendy had her pictures taken this afternoon, and I'm to pick up the proofs on Monday. Am mailing you the original bill of [pg 2] loading - if anything should happen to it, I have two duplicate copies here. News is exciting - the S. Coast of China has been bombed - bet things are going to move fast in the next six months. If you could just be home for next Christmas - couldn't you sort of write a note to Santa Claus now. Am enjoying Emily Hahn - know you will too. Tomorrow's letter will probably be a short one, but I promise a long one on Sunday telling all about Doug's visit. Love you darling - hurry home - Bobby |
